Majors: I really do not know any of this yet, but hope to soon!

Greek Life: Honestly, I do not know much about Greek life. While it didn't interest me, I know there is a lot of options for people who want to join a frat/sorority.

Off-Campus Dining: Immediately off campus are a ton of fast food places, chinese food restaurants, pizzerias, and great breakfast spots, however, only a subway stop away is a huge variety of different places to eat. Because of Temple University's proximity to Philadelphia's Center City, I always have access to fun places like fondue restaurants, hibachi, great italian and mexican cuisine, and other great restaurants unique to Philadelphia.

Campus Housing: Temple University doesn't have enough dorms for its large population, however Temple just recently built a huge new building that now houses over a thousand students. While this helped, it was still extremely expensive to live there because of the amazing features they included. The older dorms however are pretty standard, I was lucky enough to have a corner room, which meant much more space. The cable and internet connection were great, and the bathrooms were always clean if you had a communal style floor. To actually get housing, however, you must apply very early, or else the rooms fill up fast.

Campus Food: There is one buffet style cafeteria on campus and also two large eat-in/take-out dining halls with great options. The food trucks on campus are also exceptional, with really fun themes and great prices. Besides a ton of different real plans, Temple University also has "diamond dollars" that you can spend both on and off campus at restaurants or grocery stores.

Athletics: Football and Basketball are huge at my school! Temple University provides busing to every football game, but if you miss it, it is super easy to get on the Broad St. Line and get to the stadium. The basketball games are played right on campus, and it is extremely easy to get the tickets. School spirit is huge here too, the band is always making surprise appearances on the main pathway on campus, creating a great feeling of unity within our school and getting us all pumped for the upcoming game.

Administration: Guest policies were the only issues I really ran into at Temple University. They are fairly strict in the dorms when it comes to who is checking in and who is checking out, however it does make me feel safer to know they actually take this into account. Drinking will definitely get you into some trouble and a fine, but drug use is not accepted at all. As far as noise, it all depends on the RA. Same thing with attendance, it all depends on the professor. One of my classes we were allowed only 3 absences and tardiness counted as a missed class. Other professors did not keep track of attendance, just expected the work to be done.

Off-Campus Housing: My school has limited dorms, so most students live off campus. There are plenty of places to live that are affiliated with Temple, however the rent is much higher than that of apartments that are not. The problem, however, is that these apartments privately owned are much less safe and out of Temple Police's grounds.

Guys & Girls: At Temple University, there is such a wide variety of people. Especially because we are located in Philadelphia, people come from all around the country to live in this great city. You will find extremely artsy and creative people at Tyler School of Art, the art school at Temple, and more athletic people at the gym or practicing on the field. I would say that the people here can't be categorized into one group, and most people transcend multiple stereotypes and cliques.

Overall Experience: Some professors were more difficult than others, and some were more lenient. Although I enjoyed the lenient professors for obvious reasons, I found that sometimes I was working harder than other students but still receiving the same grades. Most of my classes, however, I felt were fair.

Campus Quality: The campus has a lot of places for recreation. There aren't a lot of places to just hang out outside.

Administration: The drug and alcohol policies are reasonable. Visitation is difficult since you can only have one person signed into a building past midnight, otherwise you lose those rights for a short time.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
