4 College Senior

Overall Experience: In the beginning I was not a fan of the school to be honest. It was not until I started with my courses for my major that I started to find my niche. Once those classes started I no longer saw myself anywhere else. The teachers in the education major are amazing and some of the best resources imaginable.

Athletics: Temple university had one of the best years in Temple history for their football team.

Overall Experience: While Temple University wasn't one of the top schools I would have choose from, it still is a pretty solid school. The people are friendly, most professors are willing to help their students succeed and there are many ways to get involved on campus whether it be through clubs or research opportunities. Since the campus is big though, students must make an effort to stand out a bit since it is easy to end up with an non-individualized experience. The financial aid office can also be a pain to work with but once everything is straightened out, things should be fine. Overall, I would choose this school again possibly but would also consider other options seriously as well before making a final decision.

Health & Safety: On top of the highly successful blue-light system on campus, Temple also has a very large and active police force, as well as security at the entrance of every building.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Being Temple has a widely known and respected Health-Science Campus, I believe my degree from Temple will benefit me during my selection to medical schools.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: As an honors student, class sizes are small and the professors are excellent, with many being experts in their fields.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living in a resident hall right on campus is amazing. I feel very safe living in the on-campus housing, and every one of my classes is within walking distance.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: It has really been amazing seeing the increase in school spirit during the football season. Win or lose, the students are very supportive of the team and have enormous amounts of respect for them.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The school in itself is amazing, and there is always something to do. Although the work can be tough at points, I know that it is rewarding and serves a purpose to my academic development.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: The variety of options is pretty good but hard to get into the classes that you actually need.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Some of the "security guards" I've seen don't look like they could successfully protect anybody but there are also lots of police and the presence is the most important part i guess.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Class sizes are okay, it's hard to get any core classes as a freshman, every professor has a different of style of teaching that you have to get used to.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: As a business major, access to jobs and internships are great but I don't know about any other major.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It really depends on which dorm you get, I was in White Hall which was awful because it's so far away from everything but the rooms were decent.

Greek Life: Greek life is average and doesn't really matter

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports are very important to Temple as a whole and the athletes are favored over regular students for sure.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Does not offer enough financial aid or scholarship, out-of-state tuition is ridiculous for the effort I have to put in to be here.

5 College Junior

Campus Housing: I lived in Johnson my freshman year and absolutely loved the freshman experience. My best friends lived in 1940 and also adored it. My friends that lived in Morgan and 1300 loved their dorms, but wished they were able to enjoy a real freshman experience instead of feeling like they already lived in their own apartment.

Greek Life: I'm a founding sister of a sorority so I'm slightly bias. We aren't allowed to have sorority housing because it's illegal in Philadelphia, but I live in an apartment complex with all of my sisters and we refer to it as our house. We are very close with other Greek organizations and do a lot for not just our school community, but for society as a whole.

Overall Experience: Temple University is a diverse and exciting campus located in Philadelphia. Our academic program is amazing, our athletic program is on the rise, and I am apart of Greek life which I find to be incredibly rewarding.

Health & Safety: Honestly, I feel safer on temples campus than I did at Bloomsburg. It was in the middle of nowhere and there were a lot of sexual assaults and robberies happening on campus. Some were in broad daylight by my dorm. Even though temple isn't in one of the best neighborhoods, I feel safe on campus. There are students everywhere and police everywhere. The officers are friendly and do their jobs well. It's always helpful to have people you know on campus or who work at the school to look out for you too.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: There are many of the same classes offered, especially gen eds. For my major, Asian studies, there aren't many time options to choose from depending on the class and some are only offered seasonally. My professors have been very nice and helpful. I enjoyed my classes and made friends in almost all except my math class.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This school has gotten quite the reputation for producing well rounded, successful graduates and workers. Temple has a lot of good resources. Of course, it's always good to know a few people here and there to get tips.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: I have not seen all of the rec centers yet nor have I exercised there but from my short experience regarding questions about the facilities, the staff were extremely helpful and nice people to talk to.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
