Greek Life: Greek life is huge around here. there are a lot of places to join, and there is a large scene

Athletics: The Football team Used to have better consistent seasons before the other coach left but that is neither here nor there. I always see students carrying tennis rackets or sports equipment with them as the rec center has an extreme amount of options to choose from. There are so many options for intramural team sports including water sports inside the full sized swimming pool that is available to all students. Support is greatly encouraged and a part of campus life always promoting tailgaiting in all of the clubs to support temple teams. Every homecoming there is a Humongous Temple Football helmet shaped cake that requires about 10-15 long tables to support. This is a massive tradition and is itself massive. Its available to all the students and served to celebrate the Home Team, temple owls.

Scholarships: Temple did reward me much of a scholarship regardless of my well laid out high-school transcript, extracurricular activities, Above Average GPA. The aid process is very well handled at Temple university however if you cant pay the bills because of the time laps when money is allocated they put holds on your accounts causing you to have the inability to register for class the following semester. The student financial aid office is always open to anyone, students and parents however many of the consultants who assist the many that come throughout the day are work study students who attend Temple university. This is good and bad for two reasons. One, it allows the flow of people who need simple errors with their accounts or addressing questions and concerns of parents and students away from the more important essential department leaders who process all the information they receive. It is bad when the student at work study doesn't know all of the options and may leave some information out when giving advice to supply financial aid.

Local Area: Center city Philadelphia is very nice and I really enjoy visiting there. There are plenty of attractions, including museums, concerts, and other events. Overall it is mostly safe and there's much to do. Unfortunately North Philadelphia, where Temple University is located, is not the same. It is located in a low income area, where there are constant occasional unfortunate, sometimes life-threaten occurances between the students and locals. I would like to see a bigger improvement in the satety, as well as condition of the area to make it as enjoyable as the rest of the surrounding city.

Off-Campus Housing: From the experiences of my friends, I would prefer to live at home because I would not want any additional cost

Party Scene: When you are with the right people anything can become a party.

Administration: I love these rules because they enforce a standard of living.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining can become expensive because we live in the city.

Local Area: I am a Philly native and I love the area.

Athletics: Athletics are a big part of Temple, especially intramurals .

Greek Life: Divine 9 is a large part of Greek Life here.

Local Area: The area surrounding Temple is slowly subcombing to the regentrification process. There are many historic brownstones in the area that have beautiful structures. There is plenty of shopping and thanks to SEPTA getting around the city is pretty easy

Health & Safety: I am graduate student. I do not spend a great deal of time on campus outside of class. However my classes are at night and I feel pretty comfortable walking to my car after class. There is an above average police presence on the campus that leads me to feeling pretty safe walking by myself. They also have an escort program for safety.

Athletics: I am graduate student, so I do not know much about the athletics. I know that the football and basketball teams get major coverage and the gyms are pretty cool, but otherwise I am limited

3 College Junior

Scholarships: As a graduate student financial aid was easy but scholarship opprotunities not so much so... Would love to see more opprotunities for graduate level scholarships

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of converted brownstone apartments available to students

4 College Junior

Athletics: Games are fun especially football

Administration: Fairly responsive. Haven't had major issues

Off-Campus Housing: Tons of options. Most people move to a house a few blovks off campus and split rent amongst friends and/or fraternity brothers. Its the most fun time.

Majors: There are all different types of advisors to help with majors and minors. Also, the offices definitely help with internship, research, and volunteer opportunities related to your major.

Majors: Temple is not as strict as other schools to get into for a basic 4-year degree. If you want to enter their pharmacy school or other professional school, then it is definitely competitive and you need to work super hard and reach out to others to assist you in the process.

Local Area: You have to love the city to be here. Wandering off campus, it gets worse, but on campus it is nice and beautiful. There is always something to do in the city!

5 College Junior

Athletics: There's always people on campus heading to an event and wearing the school colors and player's numbers for support.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
