Campus Quality: Location plays a huge party to the Philly scene. One thing that makes Temple unique is its location. It literally take 10-15 minutes to get anywhere you want to go. Art Museum, Old city, the Gallery. Its terrific. There is so much to do here that no one is ever bored on a Friday night.

Transportation: In Philadelphia there are many options for transportation. The subway, taxi, regional rail, Temple shuttle, bus, or walking. It does not cost much fr anything and you can basically get to where ever you want to go in 10 minuted or so on the subway. Every form of transportation is right here on campus and it goes everywhere. Many students commute which is not bad but when students travel home for breaks it is very convenient to take the subway to a bus station or a train and just go home. Convenience is the key at Temple.

Diversity: Temple University is big on its diversity. It is one of the most diverse schools in the country. People come from all over the US and the rest of the world to come here. People are really accepting and open to meeting new people here. There are many clubs that bring people together be it religion, sexual orientation, hobbies and etc. I would say one thing Temple knows how to do is be unique. Everyone is different but together we make Temple University.

Parking: Not to Bad – I do not drive to my school because i use train, but some of my friends that do said that they have experiamced some difficulties while looking for parking. Some even missed a good portion of their classes because of the parking problem.

Drug Safety: Smell of Weed Smoke – I have not encountered major drinking around the campus, but now and than fresh air is disturbed by smell of weed smoke.

2 College Senior

Drug Safety: Smokers Are Jokers – i know that a lot of people drink and i'm sure do a lot of drug experimentation because the school is in north philly. i've never done drugs and rarely drank when i ever stayed on campus so i just never felt the need or interest to get involved.

Guys & Girls: The Diversity University – the school is so diverse that i often feel out of place. you'd think it would be easier to identify with others but instead there are so many it's hard to latch onto a single group. i don't really fit in and the social life always seems so focused on drinking and crazy partying. i don't like it.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: I Don't Always Feel Safe – i would never walk around campus at night alone and rarely walk around with others. even during the day i often feel stressed about getting off the subway even one stop passed cecil b moore in an effort to be at a closer stop to my classroom building because i'm afraid to get robbed

Weather: The weather is great during the summer/spring and some fall months it is beautiful out people spend time outdoors or in center city, however the winters are cold and the snow causes alot of headaches because the snow removal system is not effective

Diversity: Temple Is one of the most diverse campus's that you could possibly be at, being in the heart of Philadelphia. Also there are students from all over the WORLD, not country WORLD, we have many international students and students of different race and ethnicities

Campus Quality: Inside Scoop – Having an urban atmosphere with public transportation to get you around the city is very unique to Temple University and other urban schools.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Moving Off Campus – Because its a city, the space available for living is very limited and the buildings can be old. There are options like Oxford Village and University Village that seem to be tied with the campus and are slightly more expensive but also more convenient to get than house hunting. The further away from campus and the further north you get, the housing is cheaper but the safety of the neighborhoods also decreases.

Campus Housing: On Campus Living – The 1300 dorms are fantastic but difficult to get. The other dorming situations seem to be rather typical of any average college campus. Housing can be a challenge because there are so many students racing for the best picks and after sophomore year you generally have to provide your own housing anyway. The campus has to dining halls and when you're tired of the food offered from them, there are plenty of tiny restaurants and take out place on and just off campus grounds. There are tons of students and its easy to make friends in your major, in your living area, or if you join a team or club. Temple has been a relatively inexpensive state school.

4 College Junior

Local Area: City Life – The city offers several different opportunties for entertainment and activity that are accessible by a quick subway ride to Temple University students. There are tons of interesting restaurants in center city that offer a variety of cultural or unique menus. Philadelphia is a historical city so there are plenty of landmarks and museums to visit. The Temple sports games are both fun and free or for a price you can also see the professional teams like the Phillies, Flyers or Eagles play. All you need is the desire to explore and you'll never be bored.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Not Involved – I don't see much drug use among students aside from smoking. Like any big school, there is a lot of drinking, but it's not a huge problem.

4 College Junior

Technology: Temple does a good job of providing technology to it's students. Wifi is pretty reliable, and there are 600 computers in the tech center and scattered throughout campus. Computers can still be tough to find, but what can you expect with 30,000 students?

Local Area: North Philly – There are many opportunities in Philadelphia, which is a great city, but Temple's neighborhood is impoverished, dangerous, and can sometimes seem depressing. Temple is a 10 minute subway ride from center city, which is awesome.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
