Transportation: with the campus being built around broad street you have the subway right at your door which can get you to center city in under 5 minutes

Academics: Pretty Cool – As long as you're very interested, work hard, and do your research, you will be fine. Being a part of the community is a big part of succeeding in your program. The school is such a big school that professors will not remember you unless you keep in contact with them, speak up, and make sure you are memorable.

Drug Safety: Pretty Basic – The drug scene is pretty basic to any other college campus in the United States, drugs are pretty easy to get to and aren't a taboo to the students.

Health & Safety: A Little Nerve-Wrecking – Temple is smack dab in the middle of a dangerous neighborhood. Because students come to the campus unprepared and unaware of how to handle themselves in that type of environment, students are targets for theft and robbery.

Athletics: Sports Rock!! At Temple, there are always sporting events going on throughout specific seasons. The top sporting events are basketball and football.

3 College Junior

Weather: Walking Distances and Snow. One thing with Temple is that there is a lot of walking to do because the campus is huge. When its pouring rain its a pain to have to walk to class and not be completely soaked. You always have to look up the weather to make sure your dressed appropriate for the weather! It snows a lot during the winter, which makes it harder to get to classes because you have to be very careful....they never cancel classes due to snow...ever.

Administration: Philadelphia Has More Things to Worry About. The city of Philadelphia is honestly chaotic and quite scary if you have never been there before and are visiting for the first time. There is tons of security, but they are looking for robberies and violent crimes rather than kids partying, underage drinking and what not. They are strict in the dorms with noise, but as soon as you walk a little off campus, cops are more worried about a lot more serious acts than the crazy social lives of college students.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: Not Very Helpful. The financial aid office at Temple is a complete headache. I have been there about 3 times in the past two weeks and still haven't been able to get my financial aid, status of living together and the semester starts in less than 2 weeks! Basically you have to demand information and help yourself because no one is going to go out of the way for you.

Guys & Girls: Social Life, but No Time for Relationships. There's a lot of social life at Temple, but it seems like more people are interested in meeting new people every weekend rather than having a long term relationship with someone. Students on this campus are all culturally diverse looking and they all have different ways of style. There is someone for everyone and anyone on this campus.

Parking: It's pretty hard to find a parking space, it being in the city and everything. I would stick with riding a bike or walking to classes.

Diversity: Temple University has a lot of people with different ethnic backgrounds. We have diverse races and different religions. People are generally okay with someone's sexual orientation being different.

Campus Quality: Philadelphia is one of the best cities in the world to experience various food cultures. From market street to Walnut, Old City, and the various installments placed throughout the city. If you are a serious 'foodie,' you will not be disappointed. Also, the gym on broad street is very modern. Paley library has endless amounts of information and the dvd cellar has many of the titles any movie fan can look forward to.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I have never waited less than 20 minutes on the phone to be in contact with a financial aid representative at the University. Other than that, they are very helpful.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: I did not realize how consistently windy it is on main campus. Plus, campus is in the Northeast, so winter is a drag.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Temple University has a lot of adversity on Main Campus. There's students from many cultures, backgrounds, and religions, but they tend to keep with those of a same ethnicity. It's pretty much the same every where else; a student feels most comfortable around those who share the same qualities and backgrounds.

Parking: Get to School Early. or Start Walking. The streets fill up quickly. It's $14 a day for parking lot spot or $300 a month.

3 College Junior

Weather: Philly Can Get Cold. When snow hits the streets expect a long haul to school, but rarely the day off.

4 College Junior

Local Area: Philadelphia is a city of entertainmen. You can find something to do any night of the week.

Diversity: Temple University is a large diverse campus in regards to anything! There are people from all backgrounds and beliefs.Everyone could find themselves here no matter what gender, ethnicity, beliefs or economic situation!

Overall Experience: Great Culture, Lots to Do – Being at Temple, in the midst of an iconic American city, offers opportunity that you can't really get in a small town. The variety of cultural events, sporting events , dining of every sort and the eclectic student population all add up to a great college experience.

1 College Sophomore

Administration: Campus Security Is Constant and Tough – Being in the middle of a major city, I can understand why police/campus security are harsh with the rules!

3 College Junior

Party Scene: Nightlife is great on the weekends as in there is always somewhere to go. But parties end early here, normally around 1

4 College Junior

Diversity: Temple is rightly known as one of the most diverse school in the country. We have people from every where in the country and the world of different races, religions, political beliefs, etc. And there is a place for everyone in the school.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
