Local Area: Temple isn't too far from center city, and Philadelphia's transportation network is highly efficient. Only negative thing is that Temple is surrounded by bad neighborhoods, although it doesn't make too much of a difference personally.

Majors: It Is Not There Falt. Temple is a good college and it is not there falt that the current situation with teachers is in the state that it is in. Most students are hopeful things will turn around. Temple has also offered students AOD classes to help students go into other areas.

Technology: I Think the Computer Systems Work Well, They Just Need to Be Dusted Off More Often. The nice thing is if the Tech room is ober flowing you can go to the library and use the computers there, which are the ones' that need some dusting off. (A)

Athletics: We love Temple Athletics! Everyone makes a point to go to the football and basketball games, but there is also a large fan base for other sports such as volleyball, field hockey, and baseball as well! Our school is a division 1 school and sports play a large rule in school pride. There are many gyms on campus, as well as a new facility on Cecil B. Moore. They are easily accessible and very convenient to go to in between classes. They are open to all Temple students!

Local Area: Never a Dull Moment – The city of Philadelphia has so much to offer! There is never a dull moment. Because of the amount of history ingrained through the streets, every stop on the Septa has something new to explore. There are countless museums and attractions just minutes from main campus! They are always very easily accessible and reasonably priced. There are so many places to shop as well, especially on South Street and Walnut Street! Also, Penn's Landing has unlimited cultural events during the spring and summer.

Overall Experience: Bitter Sweet – My experience at Temple has been bitter sweet. The best memories are those that I made with close friends. Student activity events on campus, as well as many sporting events are what made my four years at Temple truly come alive! The only poor thing I must say is that the advising department is not engaged in their job. Aside from that, my heart goes out to Temple. It will definitely be hard walking away from such an amazing University.

Health & Safety: Street Smart – Temple University is located in the heart of North Philadelphia. It is not neighbored by the safest environment, however personally, I have never been in a situation where I was threatened. Many students have had less than average experiences, and often times we have received e-mails from campus security informing us of robberies or burglaries, but this is always going to come with living in a major city. Recently, Temple has started a security bike system. The security guards are now riding through the streets of North Philadelphia around student off-campus housing.

Off-Campus Dining: Not Many, but Convenient – There are not many places to eat at that are off-campus. Most restaurant that are good are in the city.

Restaurants around campus are known for a certain something, and nothing else.

McDonalds, Wendys, Ritas, and Qdoba are cheap and familiar. Temple Star which is on Diamond St has DELICIOUS pizza rolls that are very cheap, everything else on the menu isnt that great though. Ugotmunchies is right across J&H and has great fried oreos and other fat foods (like cheese fries) for when you got the munchies. The Drought Horse is a restaurant/bar where you can take you family when they visit on weekends. City View Pizza has decent pizza (better than J&H pizza)

Theres not many places that are good, but anything will be better than any food that is covered under your meal plan. And these places are also satisfying when you have late-night cravings

Campus Quality: Transportation and Study Lounges – Theres is a lot of transportation that takes you from Temple to the city, home, etc. The subway, rail, buses, cabs, and trolleys are perfect for city living because they are cheap and the stops are either on campus or a block off campus

There is a lot of study lounges too, some with computer labs others without: The student center has a laptop lounge, the tech center is all computers. Tuttleman Learning Center has nice study lounges overlooking campus and the city, and it also has a computer lab. Its connected to the library which is very convenient. A lot of the dorms have lounges too and now almost of the dorms have computers in them so instead of running to the library to print something, you can print it in the lobby and run to class.

Weather: Not Always Sunny in Philadelphia – The weather is not that great.

PA has weird weather overall, especially during winter. This year there were a bunch of days were it was in the 60s, even up to the 70s and it was humid. Then when it was cold, it was COLD: very windy and cloudy

During the warmer months in the beginning and end of the year it rained a lot. During the first semester it pretty much rained every tuesday.

When its warmer out its really nice. Theres a nice breeze, and sun. Its nice that itll happen sometimes during winter too cause it gives you a chance to grab lunch and sit out with friends or tan on Beaury Beach

Scholarships: No Problem – Since I am entering into the graduate school, there are more opportunities for myself to get financial aid, and it is going to help my parents a lot. All you have to do is call the financial aid office, and they will help you no problem.

Overall Experience: I Love All the Opportunities – I love Temple because of all the opportunities there are. I've been opened up to all the different restaurants, and things to do in the city. Making friends has been great. i would definitly recommend this school.

Off-Campus Dining: You'll Never Get Bored! Campus life in the city means that there are tons of different restaurants that can accommodate all tastes and budgets. There are cuisines from all around the globe at your fingertips, and most of it is affordable to college students. Do you have your university ID card? Many places offer discounts to college students, and also allow them to pay for their meals via money loaded onto the card.

Transportation: SEPTA and Other – The Septa includes the subway, regional rail, buses, and trolleys.
The subway is at each end of campus on broad street and is the fastest but not the safest at night, but its still not that bad. I love the subway because it connects to other subways for free so you dont have to pay for another ride. It takes you to major attractions on Broad street which is very convenient (stadiums, shopping, City Hall, etc)
The rail takes you directly to 30th street(Amtrak). its comfortable and very safe, and right on campus. most expensive, but its only up to $6 but its great if you live in the greater philly are
Buses are just like the subway, except theres more stops and they all go to different places. Good for leaving you closer to where you want to go. Same with trolleys which are good for going to attractions like the Philly Art Museum, Philly Zoo, etc
There is the Amtrak if you live farther away, and thats the train. This is more expensive but its a very comfortable ride and has wifi. Theres also cabs if you go out into the city late at night and want to be dropped off right at your dorm/house.
If you are not traveling outside campus (ex you are at the library late and live farther off campus) you can take the Owl Loop/TU R Door: a free bus that takes Temple students to any place on campus and off campus (as long as it is withing certain boundaries).

Campus Food: Good Options – There are many options for the all you can eat buffet/main cafeteria. There are also a lot of places where you can use your meal card for a la carte items.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: There's No Place Like Home: Honors Program – My school's honors program provides an opportunity for students to attend small, discussion-based classes while attending a large, urban university. Incoming freshman are invited into the program based off of SAT scores, but students may also apply each semester, and a select number of strong students are welcomed into the program. The honors program community at my school allows students to develop close relationships with professors and other serious students, provides beneficial advising, and notifies students of scholarships and jobs.

Academics: the academics are very straight forward. the teachers are great at what they do, and the atmosphere is very friendly.

Majors: Instructors Are Great! The education is very satisfying. so far, it has been very challenging, but the amount of information learned and retained is amazing !

Weather: Very Little Rain, and Nice Summers – The weather has never really affected me getting anywhere on campus. It did not snow much this year, but in past years it has snowed horribly and classes rarely get cancelled.

Academics: There are many things to do at Temple and many activities to get involved in. Instead of sitting in your dorm and watching TV, why not go out and join new clubs or sports. Its worth a try and you will defiantly have fun while doing those activities.

Guys & Girls: There are diverse groups of people at Temple University. After getting to know people you would be surprised of how many different cultures and races people actually are and who comes from where to go to school. It is very interesting to meet new people.

Academics: Temple University is a very nice college and it is a friendly atmosphere. My major is Communication Science and Disorders and the advisors at Temple helped me sign up for classes and made sure I had everything to go to start my classes.

Majors: The expectations are clearly outlined, yet there are always surprises that comes along when you begin classes.

3 College Freshman

Administration: With the exception of Spring Fling and major holiday weekends, security is pretty lenient. They are there mainly to protect you, and with that being said no one can disrupt 30,000 students from having fun on the weekends.

Campus Housing: Living on Campus – I actually missed out on the typical freshman dorm experience, because staying in suite style dorms place freshman at a disadvantage socially. There isn't alot of social interaction in the 1300 Dorm Hall, but with a store in the basement and great conditions 1300 is definitely the best option for staying on campus for freshman. Staying at Johnson/Hardwick places you at a social advantage as far as meeting and interacting with freshman, especially girls. The disadvantages are the housekeeping conditions from Friday and Saturday night.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
