Off-Campus Housing: There are tons of affordable apartments ($450-650 a month) within blocks of campus, but many of them are in sketchy areas since Temple is in the middle of North Philly. As long as you stay reasonably close to campus, you shouldn't have problems with safety. Granted, you're still in the city, so things can happen, but you're much less likely to experience any major crimes by staying closer to campus.

Drug Safety: The drug scene is visible, but not overbearing, for me personally. I know drugs are very available for those looking for them, but I do not personally have experience getting in contact with these drugs, so I don't tend to care about this scene.

Athletics: I'm not too involved in sports but I know they just extended their football program to be more included in varsity sports.

Something about the "Big east"?

Drug Safety: Temple is has just as many parties as any other school. Visibility is semi low, you can tell where the parties are on thursday. I've noticed that students can seek it out easily if you want it, but if you're not interested then it's not really that bothersome and theres plenty of other alternative activities that temple offers. All college students smoke.

Cigarettes are a big thing at Temple, but they clean up campus every night so the litter doesn't grow.

4 College Freshman

Technology: The Tech Center is really great and has an abundance of shiny new-ish computers of the Dell and Apple variety. Temple also has many computer labs in various academic buildings. Wireless internet in residence halls can be improved, however.

Campus Food: The food court at SAC is oftentimes the most edible, although I sometimes swing by J&H for the variety (ice cream included).
I like how we can use our Diamond Dollars on many locations throughout the campus area, including Starbucks, 7 Eleven, Saxby's, Dunkin Donuts, Jimmy John's, etc.

Scholarships: I recieved a decent scholarship along with an above average financial aid reward from Temple. Just for applying to Temple University you are eligible for a scholarship. You don't have to go through the hassle of an additional application.

Diversity: There are a plethora of people from all differnet religions, economic backgrounds, and ethnic groups. Temple University does a tremendous of creating an envinorment of unity and make everyone feel as equal.

Academics: At Temple University, most of the professors care tremendously about the well being and the success of their students. They do more than enough to help them out in obtaining jobs, landing internships, and even just to succeed in subjects. The campus is great and provides the essential resources that students need to perform at their highest potential. Even with such big classes, teachers go above and beyond to assure that each student is getting the most out of their college experience.

Athletics: Most of Temple University sports are a big deal. Temple is very big on basketball and football. It's great to come and watch the girls play as well as the boys, and you can expect all the spectators to attend the football games. The training and workout facilities are great for athletes as well as students who wish to exercise at their own free will.

Greek Life: The Greek Life at Temple is very lively. There are always frat brothers and sisters sporting their letters around the campus and Greek interest tables and meetings for those who are interested in joining. Also, whenever there is an event on campus, you can usually expect to see the Greeks out and about, which is usually very entertaining to watch.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Public transportation is very reliable at Temple. There are several subways and transit train options and they are located right on campus. There is a local subway and regional rail line that runs throughout the city of Philadelphia as well as an interstate train that travels to other transit centers where you can catch a train to wherever you need to go. Additionally, there are also transit buses that run throughout the city that are fairly easy to catch and ride. Lastly, of course there are taxis and cabs available to those who desire to use them as well. All of these options are cost efficient and convenient to students and city go-ers.

Guys & Girls: There is a wide variety of guys and girls at Temple. They vary from hipsters, skaters, pretty boys, athletes & jocks to trendy asian girls and vintage chicks. The student body is so diverse that it is likely that you'll hear over 10 different languages spoken while walking throughout the campus and a various number of different races and ethnicities.

5 College Junior

Athletics: Temple's Football and Basketball seasons are so energetic and encompassing as a student. Attending and celebrating the sports events are a huge part of the awesome college experience at Temple.

5 College Junior

Party Scene: Being located right in Philadelphia offers a wide range of activities to take place in to accommodate everyone's preference and style! Cabs and Subways are super cheap too!

Campus Food: The dining halls offer a really good variety. There are the obvious staple meal options every night but there are also specials that change daily for each meal type! The one dining hall is more of a food court, than a cafeteria, which has great options and the convenience of taking your meal on the go! Temple has the most delicious food trucks lining every street through out campus that have such phenomenal freshly cooked food and can satisfy your every craving!

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Hooter's Meal Options – Temple University provides a variety of meal options, through the use of credit card/debit card, cash, Temple Diamond Dollars, and Temple meal plan. The university has food trucks, Johnson and Hardwick Dining Hall, Howard Gittis Student Center Food Court, and other restaurants. However, the Howard Gittis Student Center tends to get bland after a while since you cannot find Italian food (such as pasta and gnocchi) anywhere in the foodcard. J&H is the international help-yourself buffet of salads, soups, vegetarian options, pizza, pastas, wraps, cereal, bakery, and even has a station for allergies.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Sometimes, since we are in the middle of philly, it is not okay to be around willy nilly. You have to be aware of your surroundings, although temple university police are always on top of things. It is an open campus so anything can happen but you are always safe around campus.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: The strictness at temple university is one thing that parents love! Students have to be respectful and considerate and abide by all rules or else face the consequences. Drinking, or any other type of things that are prohibited will be given the appropriate amount of consequence.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The Off campus housing around temple is the interest of most students that attend. Depending on what type of apartment you live in or complex relies on your safety. It is safer to be closer but usually, all students rarely have a problem.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The facilities at Temple are rather useful. Practically anything you need help with, it is here. The best part about our facilities is that there is great diversity, and people are very friendly so all people fit in.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Student life on campus is actually awesome! The student center is always a place to make friends and the technology center is a place you may never want to leave. If you want to hang out the walk is the perfect place to sit down and eat. It is a college feel in a city campus! There's a bunch of fun things to do every day- you can always be involved! Come to Temple!

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: They go out of their way to look out for each other on campus.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Temple has some of the best sports teams in the country.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: North Philadelphia is a pretty scary place to live, but Temple Police is really on top of things. We have one of the lowest on campus crime rates because of them.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
