Athletics: The sports at Temple are pretty big. Yeah, we suck at football, but we make up for it at basketball. I have not clue what female sports are like. My guess is we're not that good.

Parking: Parking on campus is the absolute worst. If you don't purchase a parking pass, which is expensive AF, you'll never find another parking space on the street.

1 College Sophomore

Administration: Nobody cares if you drink or party. The police are there to make sure you're safe because the location is in north philly. If there's a massive party that is out of hand the police will shut it down but they don't arrest anybody even though it's obvious there are underage drinkers. I love it.

Academics: I'm in the College of Science and Technology, and I've been very satisfied. The Instructors I've had do a great job in explaining the material. If you get stuck or need help office hours are available for a one-on-one talk with your professor. All in all, the academics are challenging.

Campus Food: The reason Temple University get a B- is because of the variety of options. The Jewish Deli is one of the best places to eat on a meal plan because the quality of food is always great, even though they're not always stocked. Next would be the Johnson and Hardwick dining hall. They have tons of options and it's all you can eat. Now, the quality of food is not always the best, but that's the good part about it being all you can eat. Unlike at the Student Center, you can get more than one meal if you don't like something. Within the schools on campuses there are little sandwich, soup, and salad stops, but those are more for the quick bite. Do not mistake this review for all the dining on campus because there are incredible food trucks everywhere and other restaurants around.

Academics: I'm in the School of Media and Communications, and I am a Media Studies and Production major. I have loved all of my classes within my major. Of course, every class has their dull days and assignments that drive you crazy, but I have always learned something new. The instructors are very intelligent and friendly. All of them have encouraged students to come and speak with them personally and use them as a network. All of our professors have continuously worked in the media field, therefore, getting to know them can become very beneficial to your professional career.

Local Area: Philadelphia has tons of activities and attractions by its self, and the way Temple University encourages its students to become a part of the Philadelphia community is outstanding. There are classes that require students to go out and explore the city, and there are plenty of malls, sports, art and historical places to explore. Now, where the campus is located, in North Philadelphia, is not the best, but I do not believe this is to the detriment of the students. Campus safety is very important to the college, and you can not walk a block without seeing a campus cop or a city cop. Temple University is a great school for students who like a challenge and has a strong drive to succeed. Self made. Temple made.

Diversity: there are many different types of people since it is an inter city school and there are always opportunities to interact with different types of people

Weather: I've lived in the northeast all my life so the weather at Temple hasn't affected my campus experience much. We pretty much experience all four seasons at a moderate level. One thing that is upsetting though is that no matter how much/hard is snows, you will have classes the next day!

4 College Junior

Party Scene: Nightlife at Temple is amazing especially because Center City Philadelphia is just a short subway/bus ride away. There you can catch a play or a foreign film, go clubbing or see a concert. Many of these events are all ages so people under 21 won't have to worry about having nothing to do on a Friday night. There's also always parties going on around campus. Frats are always up to something and house parties occur just as frequently. I personally like seeing shows by local bands hosted in someone's basement. Philadelphia has a great music scene that can pretty much satisfy anyone's taste. And if you want to stay in, I think Jimmy John's delivers until 3am!

Diversity: There are so many different kinds of people from all over the world that attend Temple University, and many student come to Temple because they know it's one of the most diverse campuses around. Temple also has hundreds of student organizations that cater to all types of people which makes it easy to meet new people and learn about their experiences. I think that Temple is a very welcoming university, with a place for everyone to feel accepted!

Technology: The overall quality of the computers at Temple (Macs and PCs) are very good in my opinion. Wifi access is available all over campus and this is helpful during exam week when the computer labs and library are quite busy and crowded. I don't think it's absolutely necessary to have a personal computer because there are many computer labs around campus though. During any other day I've never had any problems finding a computer to use at the TECH center and printing is never a hassle.

Scholarships: I am left in a financial hole that i cannot afford at all. There is a strong chance that I will transfer to a cheaper school.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The facilities at temple are very easy to get addicted to because of my nature I will not be a good reference.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: I enjoy the various activities at temple university. I enjoy all of the events that go on that I take part.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I do not associate myself with drugs, therefore I do not know what the "drug scene" is.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: The drug scene at Temple University is not noticeable to me. Drinking is more popular.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: I didnt receive any scholarships and only a very small grant. Then again, I am in graduate school, so that has to be taken into account. You have to stay on top of things, because the financial aid office has too much to do and not enough time.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking on campus is nearly impossible, but it is not really necessary to have a car anyway since everything is so close together. The parking lots are pretty expensive and cost around $400 a semester to park. If you are a commuter I would suggest taking early classes in order to find a parking spot on the street.

Campus Quality: My school has an amazing student body. All of the buildings are newly renovated and there is a ton of places to hangout with friends, meet new people, study, or whatever you are looking to do. There is three gyms located sporadicaly around campus which all offer group exercise programs. There is also a ton of fast food places around and shopping since it is located in the middle of the city.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: My school is one of the most diverse schools in the area which makes it easier to explore what you want to do when you graduate. It is in the heart of the city, which makes it easy to get around and meet tons of new people. I love being able to walk everywhere, and public transportation is also available.

5 College Sophomore

Administration: Temple University's professors are commonly very strict on the attendance policy. If you are absent three times, you are forced to withdraw from the class and lose all credits. If you are late twice, that counts and one absence. This encourages students to go to class on time every day and increases the amount you learn.

4 College Senior

Majors: I am very happy with my program! (Psychology). My career goal is to help the public with marriage counseling and counseling in general.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I don't see drug use around that often since I don't stay late at night on campus. However, I'm aware that students use it at parties. There's cigarette smoking around campus, which is pretty normal. I have not seen any drug or alcohol activity around campus.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Since Temple is not in a great neighborhood, it is certain that there are police everywhere. I always see security driving around in their cars or even on bikes around campus. There are even emergency spots around every corner in case a person is in an emergency, they press the button and the closest officer will come for help.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
