Athletics: I am not much of a "sports girl," but I can definitely tell you that sports and athletics are a big part of Temple life. Temple prides ourselves and our teams' success. To show school pride, there are many days when tables will be set up outside giving away prizes to whom ever wears our team colors.

Overall Experience: Ever since I was young, Temple has been my dream school. With finally getting the chance to go here, I can honestly say my overall experience at Temple has been life changing. Over this last semester, I've been way better with my time management, I've worked on my communication skills and in return was able to create a great network for myself. I think the very most unique thing about Temple is it's students. Students from everywhere of every background come and share their heritage. Temple has amazing diversity and I feel like THAT is what has opened me up much more and thus got me as many newfound friendships and connections today. If I could choose all over, I would still pick Temple as my top choice in schools.

Academics: The registration process and logistics are simple and easy, all the computer systems are set up well for registration and the like. Unfortunately, professors are extremely hit or miss here - I've probably had a 50-50 split between great and awful. We do get to enjoy the Tech Center and the library, both of which are fantastic places to teach yourself the material you may not have learned in class.

Party Scene: Parties here are fine - mostly frats, no bar scene unless you're 21, because they are cracking down on fakes, but most people are content with the frats anyways.

Party Scene: Most parties are at frat houses, which vary in size and quality. You're gonna be drinking bad beer, so that's a given, but some parties have more space for the same amount of people while it gets super cramped at certain frats.

Diversity: There's a ton of diversity here - mostly liberal as the majority of students aren't so loaded like at a private school. Racial diversity is "good" - we have a ton of diversity on paper, but races don't tend to mingle..there's a surprisingly large LGBT community here, and everyone is friendly accepting of differences. But we all tend to stick to our own, unfortunately.

Campus Housing: Housing varies considerably based on which location, and how much you pay. Morgan Hall - at $10,640 - is by far the nicest housing, with a kitchen and common area, and that's the newest, while we also have some run-down dorms that aren't so great too.

Athletics: School spirit is huge here! We turn out for football games in a big way, and we have decent participation for basketball as well. We play football at the Eagles' stadium, and TU buses us down to the games. Our team was phenomenal this year, and that's boosted the participation at all events.

Greek Life: You can find Greek life and get involved if you want, but it's nice that there's no pressure to and that it doesn't dominate the social scene by any measure. They throw most big parties, but our participation is about 4%, so chances are you won't run into too many frat/srat members outside of parties.

Health & Safety: Being in North Philly means there will be a decent amount of crime, but as long as you're smart about it and don't go to bad areas alone, you'll be fine. On a side note, my bike was stolen from a secure bike room - the police are good, but not totally proactive.

Drug Safety: There's a large contingent of the student body that drink, and many drink to excess as well. That's not to say that you can't find the non-drinking group, but alcohol and weed are very visible at this school.

Overall Experience: Like any school, there are going to be positives and negatives in terms of academics. But there are very few classes that have been challenging so far, and many people care more about getting hammered on the weekends than pulling a decent GPA. There's certainly a niche that really prioritizes academics, but even if you're dedicated, chances are you'll end up in a huge lecture where you're nameless during your freshman year. There can be very little individual attention when you start here.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
