3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Expensive but close to campus.

4 College Senior

Majors: There is something for everyone. There is also an option to create your own major as well.

5 College Senior

Majors: Commerce School at UVA is by far the best program out there.

Campus Quality: It's Columbia - if you're not in awe of what you see each day when you arrive (or walk around) on campus, there is something wrong with you. There is such a rich history of scholars it's ridiculous.

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Quality: There is nothing more unique than learning from the people that are writing your text books, or that are cited in your text books dozens of times. The availability of high-quality knowledge is unreal.

4 Recent Alumnus

Campus Food: The dining room is pretty decent. It is a little pricey, for reasons I can't yet identify - but, what are you going to do? There is a wide variety of options, and it's easy to get in and out and eat in the available dining room between classes. You can also order food to go, if you want to head to the library to eat.

Off-Campus Housing: Housing in NYC is VERY different than other places (smaller cities). You're looking at smaller units with higher prices, and less amenities. However, it is not too difficult to find roommates, or units for that matter - but know what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay. If you use a Broker/Realtor to help, you will have to pay them 12% of the yearly rent (or sometimes one month, or a discounted rate for some because of student status) for their services. They are ALWAYS busy, especially during the summer, and they're not nearly as helpful (because of this) as what you may have experienced in other places.

Off-Campus Dining: If you can't find something new to eat for every meal, every day - you're crazy. :)

4 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: There is a clinic on campus that is easily accessible. The school borders Harlem, but you need ID to get into any of the buildings - and all guests must be signed in. There are incidents of mugging, etc at times late at night, but I have yet to hear of anything more serious.

5 Recent Alumnus

Party Scene: It's NYC. Whatever fun you fancy, you can find.

3 Recent Alumnus

Drug Safety: I really have no idea what the drug safety is on campus. I assume at this point in education, the heavy drinking and drug use is not prevalent - especially in Ivy League.

4 Recent Alumnus

Transportation: Public transportation is the way to go. Having a car in the city is ridiculous. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, learn the subway system, and know where your cabbie should be taking you. It's far easier to take public transportation than to try to drive yourself around the city.

4 Recent Alumnus

Technology: I do not normally utilize the campus computers, as I bring my laptop or iPad to use for classes. However, there are a high number of computers available for student use at all hours of the day. The library is stocked with iMac's and you can load money on your ID card to pay for printing, meals, etc.

4 Recent Alumnus

Weather: You will get all four seasons in NYC. Summers are HOT when using the subway system, and the winter's can be brutal if you are not used to an abundance of snow. If you are prepared for the weather changes, you will be just fine.

5 Recent Alumnus

Local Area: There is nothing like living in NYC. The variety of opportunities are endless - food (you will never eat at a chain restaurant again!), fun, locals, museums, etc. - whatever you want, you can have. Also, with you Columbia ID, entrance to all museums is free (except the Guggenheim) - among other student offers from the City.

5 Recent Alumnus

Diversity: Teachers College pride's itself on its high level of diversity among the student body. Their commitment to diversity is also extended to their Professors, which enriches the overall learning experience, especially in a program where the resulting career requires one to interact regularly with diverse populations.

3 College Senior

Parking: Average to good for Manhattan

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Very expensive, lots of work to obtain a new lease

3 College Senior

Greek Life: I don't know anything about our Greek life

5 College Senior

Majors: I don't plan to have an internship for now because I'm working part-time in something related to my field.

5 College Senior

Majors: I really like my program. It's not about long papers for my professors, but about concise, thoughtful papers. My professors are very open to students and try to create a community of learners atmosphere. I think that's particular to my program though. The workload is hard for some, but it seems to me normal. Their career services is EXCELLENT, though it's hard to get an appointment with them quickly.

4 College Senior

Local Area: People are used to rushing

4 College Senior

Parking: For NYC, not bad at all.

4 College Junior

Weather: It is the northeast so the weather tends to be a little unpredictable. The winters are cold, summers hot and humid. But the beautiful days are truly beautiful.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: it's pretty much safe I have nothing to worry about.
