I have recently just started college as a freshman and so far my experience at Tarleton State University has been absolutely wonderful. The hospitality of the people, not only the other students but the residents of Stephenville, is gratifying. I have kept up with friends that graded at the same high school as myself and have also taken a several hour course from home to varying Universities across Texas, and all have complaints about professors and the college towns they live in. I have not yet had one single complaint about this university. The professors have astounding and unique educational backgrounds and all are more than qualified at their jobs, a unique quality of this university that defines the excellence that Tarleton presents. The gentlemen at this school will wait ten minutes just for a lady to get to the door so he can hold it open for her! I definitely would not choose any other school over Tarleton State. This is home, and I couldn't be happier to have made the transition to this unique and prestigious little university.

My freshmen year of college was an absolutely amazing experience. Because it is a smaller school, the atmosphere is a lot more welcoming and friendly. People are easy to approach and seem to be eager to help. The Texan traditions there make homecoming week a really fun time. The bonfire is probably my favorite tradition of them all. My school is unique in that they have chosen "poohs." These people are in costume from head to toe and speak in a high voice so that they won't be recognized. They are the most spirited people of the school and they keep everyone's excitement level at 100 percent. The "Purple Poohs" identities are kept secret until those people graduate and they take off their costume. They are at every sports event and tradition that Tarleton State University has and they are my favorite part of the school! If I had a thousand different chances to choose another school I would always choose Tarleton. Everyone care's for each other's success and we aren't afraid to have fun.

Tarleton State University has its positives and negatives just like any other school. It is great because the campus is small and not as expensive as most universities. The school has many options for majors and it has many student organizations. The downside for me is that it is in a small town, I grew up in the suburbs/city so I am not used to small town life and I had trouble adjusting. Also the school has limited parking like many other universities and it is hard being a commuter to the school. If you want a university in a small town then this school is perfect for you! Although I struggled, the academics are great and most professors will work with you and care. There are some bad professors but you just have to ask around to get the good ones. The school is growing and there are many new dorms so you will be living in great facilities. Overall the school is great just wish the town wasn't so small.
