Academic Flexibility: It's a community college, so open admissions, which made getting in very easy.

2 College Student

Overall Experience: I would choose to go to another school if I could do it over again.

4 College Student

Overall Experience: Most teachers are great. A few are cold and don't help, but the majority want students to succeed.

3 College Student

Overall Experience: My suggestion would be go to Pierce instead if you're looking at the community colleges in the area. Most of the people I know who have gone there are very happy with the decision, whereas I know a few TCC students (including myself), who are relatively dissatisfied. Some teachers are great, some are not, the online courses are wonderful, but the Advising has shown to be hugely disorganized in my experience, and that is one place in your college that you don't want to get incorrect information, or a lack of help.

Online Courses: Really enjoyed the online courses at TCC. Most teachers were friendly and accommodating, but didn't allow students to take advantage of the online situation, which is a good thing. A big part of these are usually getting assignments in on time.

Student Body: The student body is fairly closed off. It's a community college, so most people quickly clique back up with people they hung out with in high school. There's not much socializing in classes however, and a good portion of students go to school, and then straight back home.

3 College Student

Tuition & Financial Aid: I pay out of pocket. Many of my friends needed loans or financial aid help.

3 College Student

Career Services: I haven't discussed post-grad services with anyone yet, as I'm not close to graduating at this current time.

3 College Student

Academic Experience: I'm just trying to get a transfer degree, and get out. Not much else to it. I've taken both classes on campus, and online. Online, the workload is easy, just get things in on time. For most classes that are on campus, instructors are willing to put in the same amount of work that you do.

Academic Experience: I will say that the instructor who teaches Native American History and World Civilizations is fantastic. He made me love history, and I never had an interest in it prior to his class. Mr. Culanag, the Digital Photography teacher, is good, but gives lots of information easily found online, and has to combat the fact that the school has him teaching Intro to Digital Photo and Intermediate Digital Photo in the same class period, which is a cause of frustration for everyone. That is more a fault of the school than him, however.

Most teachers are very accommodating when you have to drop a class last minute, particularly when mental health is involved.

Campus Resources: I took off two quarters because I was told by my advisor, and two other people working in the Advising Center that I was on academic suspension. I come back after completing paperwork, having to reapply, and having a meeting/making a plan to better my studies, that I never had to take a quarter off in the first place. Completely disorganized.

Tuition & Financial Aid: It seems communication may be an issue,

Academic Experience: Work study has been awarded,

Campus Resources: Tutoring marc center. Open saturdays.

3 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: I am currently taking the intro courses required for all majors at my school to transfer into the state school. Most of my fellow students majors are healthcare related (competitive) so as a business/accounting major I haven't really met a lot of other people with the same aspirations.

Academic Experience: Most topics at school are easy to follow. Amost all teachers give a syllabus, and work can usually be completed ahead of time. Class registration is hectic and a bit frustrating due to the fact that it's dependent on days so classes can fill up on the first day of available registration (boo!).

Tuition & Financial Aid: The tuition fees are decent and not prohibitively expensive. But textbooks and software fee (MyMathLab) are ridiculousl expensive and it feels as though they're gouging my wallet everytime it's a new quarter.

College Sophomore

Student Body: I'm a commuter person and attend school in the evening.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: During rush times, it can frustrating to have an appointment. Counselors are sometimes late and it can feel very much like fast food.

The resources available are awesome. The tutoring centers have not only free tutoring, but a quietly busy place to complete homework with the class' textbooks and calculators that only need to be checked out. These centers run until night time so open hours are flexible and easily accessible.

The cafeteria is clean and the bookstore sells snacks and school supplies for a reasonable price and is also until the evening. Computers are available for those who may not have any or wish to complete homework while at school and it is usually not a problem to access these. The library has a wide variety of books, primarily for the sciences and mathematics that can be hard to get elsewhere.

The gym/ fitness center is free, with a decent selection of machines, cardio equipment and free weights. The locker rooms are clean and the showers pretty much always have hot water. However, the hours are dependent on any current classes and whichever metric they use to determine open hours. It's not open that long, which is frustrating.

College Sophomore

Career Services: I have not yet graduated nor anybody who has.

4 College Sophomore

Online Courses: I go to a community college and the online courses allow people who would not otherwise attend college the opportunity to do so. The commonly recited benefits of an online course is that it allows the student to work at their own pace without the travel commitments that would usually impede those with a working schedule. Yet complaints arise as to of how online courses do not allow students to interact with each other, with the teacher, and does not allow a person to become enmeshed with the schools culture.

To which, I have to say, is unjustified. At a school such as mine, it is largely of what you make of it and for many people it is a "commuter school"- a term for a school in which people are simply there for an education and transfer to one of our states top state colleges at a fraction of the price. The dominant software we use is Canvas which is intuitive, easy on the eyes, with several features that makes it easy to learn from the teacher and students.

Replies are available from comments. Discussions are frequent. The workload can be quite intense and fast paced, but usually organised in a logical manner. It's easier to talk to a professor online, send a quick message detailing issues with the curriculum than trying to make office hours.

The majority of us are in basic courses- 101, 102, etc. Most of us want to make the process of going through these foundational courses to get to the heart of what we want to study quick and painless.

Overall Experience: Tacoma Community College has completely changed my life. As a server at a local restaurant i love my job but hope to someday have a career, through TCC i feel i will be able to take the right steps in order to make that happen.

5 College Junior

Student Body: The student body is diverse and accepting. As a student senator, president and founder of the first printmaking club, and student, my interactions with other students have been nothing but positive and i have been able to rely on fellow classmates to help further my education.
