Local Area: While there is generally not much in the way of attractions in nearby cities like Madison Heights or Amherst, the local atmosphere is very much like your average small towns- strangers tend to be polite, you're more likely to run into someone you know while in town, that sort of thing. There are some good food places, stores, and malls further in Lynchburg, though, which can lead to good day or evening out with friends. Certain parts of Lynchburg are directly under Liberty University's nose, though, but it's the same as if you were visiting any other college-town, like the University of Virginia and Charlottesville. Locals are pretty friendly towards students, and there are usually some pretty good student discounts at local restaurants.

Local Area: You are basically living in the middle of nowhere, but if you're into that, this place is perfect.

2 College Freshman

Local Area: Sweet Briar is in the middle of nowhere. Lynchburg is about 30 miles away but it is actually quite a haul for a quick night out for dinner on a night when you have an exam the next day. There are only two restaurants close to the school and you get tired of them very quickly.

Local Area: There is nothing out here but mountains and Sheetz.
