SUNY Cortland Reviews
Rating 3.62 out of 5 905 reviews
Cortland was very easy to be a student and faculty was welcoming and always willing to help in any way they could. It just felt like home as soon as I walked on campus for a tour when I was applying to undergrad. However, I wish there were more accessible food options that were open at more reasonable hours, especially at the top of the hill. They all closed so early which made it difficult if you needed to do work in the afternoon or late at night on campus. I've had many nights where my dinner consisted of fritos from the vending machine.
SUNY Cortland definitely isn’t the right place for everyone. Very small town with little commercial social gatherings (bars). Besides this, there is a large amount of teachers good and bad that you will either love or completely hate. Most people are from Long Island, not bad or good. As easy as it is to make friends here as a guy with a little charisma, the nightlife is very poor and you’ll spend most nights in your dorm unless you make connections with sports and or join 1 of 2 frats.
As a girl, it’s the same deal unless you have connections or are in a sorority. The 1 free dining hall on campus closes at around 8-9 and it’s the farthest building from most places on campus. The SLC is amazing for athletes. I would recommend coming here as an athlete or just as a person who’s content with spending a lot of time in their dorm, especially in winter. But if you want to go somewhere where you’re constantly busy, this is not the place.

My experience at SUNY Cortland was nothing short of amazing. The entire structure of the campus itself is magnetizing to those who crave an inviting and warm atmosphere. SUNY Cortland helped me grow into the determined, intelligent, athletic, hardworking mindset I have today. SUNY Cortland gave me friends I will keep for a lifetime as well as the skills and knowledge to progress my future however I desire. If I could change anything, I would have changed attempting school during a pandemic. Although the pandemic was not expected it truly altered my entire college experience as far as my academics and schooling was concerned. However, external factors did not affect the joyful experience in which SUNY Cortland so graciously gave me.
