4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Public safety seems like it is doing well but I dont know enough

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It serves its purpose but there are some things I'd change.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The university certainly does try its best to provide its students with these opportunities

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I'm not interested in this part of college life.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's great but the financial load can be a lot. Also, the university provides great resources dedicated to helping its students succeed.

5 College Junior

Athletics: When I think of St.Johns athletics, It has a strong comparison to NYC as a whole. In NYC we're a basketball town ( Knicks), with a way better baseball team ( Yankees). And honestly that is St John's university in a nutshell. The basketball program is the most loved program at our university, almost religiously loved; however the baseball team is the better program. To be fair the basketball team is coached by two NBA hall of Famers, coach Chris Mullin ( alum) and Coach Mitch Richmond; but I just wish the baseball team would get more recognition.

Overall Experience: I love the school. It's just too expensive.

Greek Life: Not any real fraternities or sororities. It is a city school so they should stop acting like they are a big deal.

Athletics: St. John's soccer, baseball, and softball have been great. Basketball has been slacking but Mullin should improve the team over the next few years.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: A school that provides so many great opportunities, you just have to go out and seize them. If you simply outwork your peers you can stand out and do well. If you are ambitious St. John's has a lot to offer and will help you, if you aren't aggressive and take advantages of opportunities, it will seem like nothing special.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: I cannot speak very much on this topic in particular simply because I'm not a sports person (so I don't pay attention to the scene). However, we do have nice fields and gyms, not to mention that going to games is very fun. Considering that I'm pretty satisfied with all the other aspects of my school, I think it's safe to say that they are just a good as one imagines.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The school is really quite amazing. I have amazing people who are passionate about what they study and do. The teachers are generally always fair (although, like any university, you will have your exceptions. We're not all perfect!). The amount of opportunities for ANYTHING is beyond belief. However, that is not to say it is always easy. This education is a good education if you want it to be. Hard work and personal initiative play an important role at this school. That being said, if you do happen to put in the effort, you will see results that do not betray you. I'm glad I go to this school.

5 College Student

Overall Experience: I am a pharmacy major and I work with science supply and as a pharmacy tech for Duane Reade.

Campus Housing: There is a very large commuter population, but residence life os still great.

3 College Student

Greek Life: There's good and bad aspects to it, but nothing too huge either way. It isn't a "thing" like it is in the south.

3 College Student

Athletics: The sports are great. The basketball team is huge here, therefore the area is amazing, I'd say among the best in the country especially when we get to have some of our games at Madison Square Garden. The team was not successful this year, but games were fun to go to. Other sporting events are great, as well as our tip off which is like our homecoming.

Health & Safety: Public safety is one of the major things here on campus. Every five minutes, students will see them roaming around and watching out. Although there are many public safety sightings on campus, public safety is a bit oblivious to some activities on campus. They don't deeply investigate and keep themselves fully alert.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Some professors are very enthusiastic to push for the class to be fun. These type of professors are average in amount and also make sure that students understand the material. However, some classes are for attendance where professors would efficiently teach the material, but aren't as passionate toward the students. These type of professors lack connection and just focus in delivering the material.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: There are internships available and offered to students. There are many willing to help in giving information about internships. However, there are not too much alumni that revisit the school. The advisers do their jobs in helping students. Many remain patient. However, majority of the student career prospect isn't deeply facilitated throughout the campus. Students need to figure out where to receive help.

Campus Housing: As an on campus resident student, I feel as if the dorm life is comfortable and livable. However, many are commuters so the social connection between everyone is limited. The campus is clean and beautiful.

Greek Life: There are students involved in greek life however, many are commuters so it seems as if greek life is a known presence but not a major hit on campus.

Athletics: Although there isn't much tradition or school spirit, many connections are forms through students' passion for sports. The athletes here are very devoted. The popular sports here are basketball and lacrosse. Many students attend games to build strong bonds and for entertainment. This is where the majority of school spirit is reflected.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The school is a commuter school. Joining clubs and organizations will help introduce a student to others and create a bond. However, since many commute it feels like people live in their own separate worlds. There's not too much school spirit. There are events here and there however, not everyone is too enthusiastic. The campus is comfortable and livable. However, the connection between everyone and tradition needs more work.

Health & Safety: I feel safe at my school. There are constantly public safety vehicles driving around campus and we also receive updates about potential dangers at school.

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
