Health & Safety: Queens campus is an open campus anyone can walk onto it whether they are a student or not

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: i love it, but its what you make of it, dont sit in your dorm all day

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I havent looked into yet, I will in the fall though, gotta get that money

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The basketball games and games in general have a lot of school spirit to them and the facilities for the students for activities are clean and in good condition

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I commute by my friends who dorm say its all right

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: This Spring semester I joined a sorority and it was the best decision I have made. I was able to get close to many people and make so many more friends and it I believe it will make my college experience so much more enjoyable.

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: LOVE LOVE LOVE! Its a must for me, I am so happy i joined it changed my outlook of the school

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Spent $38 million on a coach and the basketball team can barely win, all other sports are over shadowed by the basketball team

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Hated it until I got involved, joined Greek Life and a bunch of clubs and now I love it. Academics are what you make of it, you can maintain a 4.0 if you work for it, if not then expect to be struggling

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Campus housing is decent, it's what you make of it.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I have friend who have joined and have had some rough experiences and other who hce enjoyed it. It all depends on the person

2 College Freshman

Athletics: It's a D1 school in athletics, however the men's basketball team doesn't win many games but they have huge egos like they do.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Good for academics, there are lots a career events that are beneficial.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Its very good and very diverse. Even within a certain subject there are multiple courses

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The Public Safety on campus definitely do their job. It may be annoying sometimes what sticklers they can be, but at the end of the day they're doing their jobs.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I've had some really good professors. I've had some really bad professors. I've taken some courses I couldn't stay awake for. I've taken some courses that I actually look forward to each week. It all comes down to the student and their educational interests and the teacher of course.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: St. John's University is a very well accredited school. Many top alumni have come out of SJU. Employers love recruiting SJ students, coming to our campus at least twice a semester at our Career Fair.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The dorms don't really bring a home feeling. They are suite style and it's rare for everyone in the entire suite to get along and actually be friends.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Being that Sj is mainly a commuter school, I think the best way to be more involved and to meet new people and have a more typical fun college experience is the join greek life here. Me personally, I thought about it and did my research because I am a commuter but it just was't for me.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: 4 stars for the simple fact SJU is a D1 school, which means D1 Athletics.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I came here because my mom works here. Free tuition. Was never necessarily my first choice but it is what you make of it honestly.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Not a part of it so I can't really say

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Basketball games are fun to attend

5 College Student

Overall Experience: The proffesors are really good at those subjects!

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
