Health & Safety: Safety is a major priority at St. John's. There are these button things almost everywhere that help you call for help wherever you are on campus. There are cameras almost everywhere and students are alerted of any dangers around campus so that they can protect themselves.

Diversity: There are so many people of different races and ethnic backgrounds at St. John's. Everyone is so friendly and open. It's a nice way to meet new people, broaden your horizons, learn new things and expand your friend circle.

Campus Food: The places on campus are awesome. There's so much to choose from. There's always a waffle truck on campus every Monday morning. However, some of the stuff on campus are pricey.

Local Area: Since St. John's University is located at Queens, I must say atmosphere is pretty good. There are many places to see, eat, and hang here. Campus itself is surrounded by restaurants and delis and two blocks down is a Barnes and Nobles. Transportation is convenient since buses are located outside the school, or students can take the free shuttle provided by the school. Students can hop on the train and get off at Forest Hills or Main street (Chinatown of Queens) and shop or eat. Or students can take the train downtown to Manhattan and visit New York City's famous museums such as the Met or MOMA, and catch a broadway show.

Campus Food: Campus offers a variety of foods to choose from, such as Burger King to Subways to Chinese food. There are three main buildings with cafeterias. Besides fast food, there are also salads and sandwiches that students can make and choose when ordering. There is also a Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts for students to buy coffee. There are also self-serve buffets in one of the buildings, mainly used for students who dorm. Meal plans are also available for students. Buildings contain very spacious lounges for students to sit and relax. Since the university is located on Union turnpike, there are many food chain restaurants outside as well. There are delis, restaurants, fast foods, and Halal food. Students don't have to worry about not getting food. The university even provides free food to students during special events.

Scholarships: The school provides a variety of scholarships and loans to help students in need. Of course, some scholarships are given based on a student's GPA, either from high school (if you are an incoming freshman) or the previous semester if the student is already enrolled. Once the GPA drops below a 3.0, the scholarship is removed and a students has once semester to bring it back up. Even though, the university provides a lot of different options, it is never fully covered. Many students usually end up paying out of pocket or taking out loans. Overall, financial aid is pretty good and the staff is willing to help and answer questions. Be warned, this is a pretty expensive school, not to mention other fees depending on your major.

Local Area: Queens is the largest borough in New York. With that being said it is filled with multiple ethnicities, cultures, and religions. Having so much variety within one community provides an out-of-towner several different food vendors, shopping malls, and public parks. Its almost impossible to not find anything to do on the weekend.

Academics: The primary reason I came to St. John's University is because of its excellent business program. The school does and excellent job at providing the necessary courses, materials, and professors for educating aspiring students within all aspects of the field. Whenever I am confronted with an issue concerning academics, several tutors are already set up and available to assist me. St. John's has definitely reassured me of my choice in receiving my bachelor's in business.

Local Area: The city is great, if you know where to go. The island not so much.

Health & Safety: At st. Johns University the Health & Safety is good because clean, beautiful, safe place i been there once i was amazed how everything looked it just made me feel like i belong there and this is where i should get my degree.

Campus Housing: I believe that its an amazing idea that the campus has housing because basically there always at school or at their dorm studying

Local Area: St. John is a really good college. I had friends that went to that college and they recommended me to go there. Also, I love the fact that they are not far away from my house its very convent to me.

Diversity: St. John's University is sooooo diverse! That was the main reason why I went the school! The students are very open minded and it will be very rare if you run into someone who is close minded. If you are not an open minded person, then I suggest that you do not apply to St. John's University because you would have wasted your money and your time.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is not bad at all. The dorms are co-ed by floors and there are freshman dorms for first year students. The dorms have strict rules that you must abide by. For instance, if your guest forgets to sign out, then you will get punished for it by going to a meeting. Also, when you have a guest that is not a student, then they will have to hold their ID until they leave the building. Finally, you should fill protected because Public Safety takes occasionally strolls through the halls all throughout the day and it is not hard to spot Public Safety when you need them.

Athletics: My school has a lot of school spirit. However, a lot of the attention is directed towards the basketball team, especially the men's basketball team. I would have given a better grade if the school spirit was disbursed to all of the other sports on campus.

Technology: when you come to st.Joh'ns you get a personal labtop. Upcoming freshmen can actually get a Macbook pro now with only 400 dollars and you get to keep the labtop if you graduate. Also there are a couple of computers labs located in campus and they give you 40 dollars each semester. the speed of wireless isn't that fast but it's do-able but in the dorms it's pretty slow because everyone's using it

3 College Freshman

Weather: it's kind of cold at st.john's during the winter and it rains and snows time to time. But if there's a lot of snow they cancel classes. We had snow days at least once a year since I came to college. And during hurricane sandy they closed school for a week for recuperation

Greek Life: you don't have to join greek life to enjoy college. it definitely keeps people occupied during the school year. there isn't a lot of campus activites at st.John's so sometimes it's good to join greek life and make some connections.but if you fell like it's not for you don't join it .

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: St.John's is the commuter school so they are a lot of people from the long island and queens area. There isn't much of a campus vibe if you don't join greek life. There are couple of events time to time but majority of the campus is set up for the commuter life style

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I had to stay on top of everything because they don't really let you know what document they're missing and what they need from us. Some of my documents got lost in the process also. Sometimes I wish I can make an appointment with the head person but it's hard to do so sometimes.

Academics: It is really hard you have to really know what you want to do, I am currently going through a major change and it is really challenging to figure out what I want to do.

4 College Junior

Diversity: There is a lot of people of varying races and ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: You can easily take advantage of scholarships.
However, tuituion fee is originally overwhelming.

Academics: I am a biology major at St Johns pursuing pre med intending on attending med school to be a general surgeon. The program is difficult, lots of complex classes to take but every teacher I have encountered so far has done everything they can to help me succeed. There is a lot of work but not an unbearable amount, if you pace yourself and do the work ahead of time or when it is assigned then you don't have to worry about cramming the night before. As long as you go to class or at least keep up with the assignments your grades should be excellent. There are also a lot of resources to help you find internships and jobs. The career center is located on campus and is there for the specific purpose of helping students connect with the resources they need.

Academics: Love the academics, and that's probably the only thing i actually do love about St John's. Every teacher I have had has been amazing. They take the time to actually build relationships with their students regardless of how many students they deal with on a day to day basis. The teachers make themselves available for tutoring and anything else you might need, and they do what they can to make sure you have the tools you need to pass the class.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
