Academics: MY MAJOR RULES – I think that being a Psychology major at St.John's is a great opportunity and everyone in my classes seems to be extremely driven to be the best in their field.

Scholarships: Annoying but Worth the Annoyance – Sometimes they mess up your paperwork but for hte most part they do their hjob well. I have everything paid for and its great.

Off-Campus Housing: So Hard to Find – I couldnt find cheap housing for the life of me therefore i decided to appeal the fact that I didnt get housing through stj they decided to place me on a waiting list and easily enough i got in.

Health & Safety: Really Safe – On campus you couldn't feel safer there is always public safety aroudn and you never have to worry about anything. But once you step out of the gates its a hwole new world

Parking: You have to be super carful because Public Safety will give tickets for any reason whatsoever.

Athletics: It's almost as though people who aren't from StJ have more to say about the sports teams than those who go to StJ. The sports are important but if you are in the school and know these kids personally they are nothing that you want to be associated with. School spirit is high though.

Off-Campus Housing: Expensive and a Hassle – If you look hard enough Im sure you will find a great place but in all honesty there is just such little space and so many students now looking for off campus housing that if you dont look quick enough you wont even be in walking distance from the school.

Technology: Lenovo Laptops – I have a Lenovo X200 and it is a crappy laptop. I have already had to have my hard drive replaced twice, need a new camera and speakers, and this laptop does not come with a disk drive. It is a poor model from Lenovo. Overall, it is the worst model of laptop given to St. John's students.

Scholarships: THEY ARE ALWAYS MESSING UP – They are constantly adding things to my bill and taking things off when i tell them that their calculations are incorrect. clearly they need to keep track of us better and quit changing our amounts like its some game to see who notices and who doesn't.

Party Scene: Its a Hit or Miss – You really never knwo where the parties ar euntil you get that text saying that someone is having a party currently and to come through. Its annoying cause you cant really plan anything. Clubs are ghetto trads shut down parsons is a shitshow

Technology: They Arent That Bad – The ocmputer sthat StJ gives out to students are really nice i think they are efficient and exactly waht I need the fact that they are included in our tuition makes me happy because since I got a full ride not only did i get a free education but I also got a free computer. They give choices for macs if you wanna update your ibm and pay an extra fee

Parking: Depending on the time of the day, parking may be insane since there are a lot of commuters.

Administration: The security is generally very good. Storm card needed to enter buildings is good. The resident life is a bit too strict with sign in rules and overnight regulations.

Guys & Girls: The Guys – The guys on St. John's campus are very cocky and they think they can have every female that walks by and the thing is that most of the guys are not even cute.

Campus Food: We have a good food places around our campus. They have changed it up over the past couple of years so that's something that was nice like the subway in Marillac. The only thing that i don't appreciate it the prices. Its very expensive.

Transportation: This bus doesnt come on time or when it's scheduled

Greek Life: Stressful, help me with my time management, time consuming

Technology: Decent. Sometimes Crowded. WiFi is alright. Only downfall is there isn't wi-fi in the residence suites on campus, only in the floor lounges. There are many places to access a computer on campus. Another plus is being able to choose between Macs and PCs.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
