Majors: the process of getting into my Childhood Education major was really easy. i knew that that was the field i wanted to go into but not really sure whether i wanted exactly to be a teacher. working with kids was my passion so all i did was write an essay on why teaching was my passion and what do you expect yourself in the next five years and i was excepted into the school. When i went to Saint John's Sullivan Hall to meet the deans i could see the buzz of energy that they express about teaching some of them were teacher and some went into the field and became counselors for new teachers. there was also students who spoke to us about double majoring or concentration where you don't have to be just a teacher but can concentrate on other thing as well which an broaden your jobs pool. i decided to concentrate in psychology which is my other interest but we didn't have to choose until the end of first semester. the school provides you with an adviser to talk about anything with help you stay on your path. they give you pointers and recognize your strong suit. The school requires that you maintain a 3.2 average which seems quite high but is easy to maintain as long as you learn from your fieldwork classes. if you do you have one semester to get your grades back up. it will take you alot of effort to fail at this help is provided to you everywhere. they also have a dual education program where you can dual major in Childhood Education/Special Education and three 5 years programs where you can graduate with a masters degree in literacy.

There something here for everyone.

Academics: As a education major, i deeply love the faculties generous help to see me achieve my career goal. many of my classes require me to take my work outside the campus into inner city classroom. all my teachers have been in this field of work for long periods of time so they tell us what to look for as we do our observations/internships. these teacher help you build networks with schools and offer recommendations for when you start going off to work. many of the student start student teaching in junior year. talking to them after-school benefit you as well. they can help you you with lesson plans, give you new perspectives on older ways and provide comfort for you on your off days. they not only show you the beauty of this feild but tell you the dangers of it and how to avoid it as well.

Health & Safety: Saint John's University always send lots of alerts close campus on bad weather days a couple of assault happen but quick to respond and are always patrolling. You feels safe always its small so you see everyone faces everyday. And they have safety seminars to help a friend whose drunk so you know what to do although drinking isn't allowed on campus.

Diversity: St.john's is a melting pot of culture, people, and political opinion, you'll see different ethnic groups working with each other and a great vibe all around

Campus Housing: Living on campus is the best experience any college student can have. At St.john's it is a dry campus and many may say that living on campus is not fun but if you find the right group of friends and find fun in the little things you will make the most of it. Plus your in New York City what is not fun about that

Drug Safety: The Drug scene at St.john's all depends on the people you hang around. It is a dry campus and you rarely see anyone using drugs on campus, but off campus its a totally different story.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are a decent amount of homes around the campus that students live in. They are quite expensive and the price is typical of a NYC apartment. Once in a while I see fliers lying around looking for roommates. There are also houses in campus, but they are even more expensive. Parking is moderately available, but you can usually find a parking spot around campus. The area is also quite safe. I've never ran into any problems while being around campus.

Majors: Pharmacy at St. John's University is definitely a challenge. It requires a lot of time dedicated to studying for exams and there also a lot of interactive activities we must do during out labs and out required internships. I have enjoyed it because it was a great learning experience. There is so much to know out there about medicine. The professors are mostly helpful in the learning process.

Majors: I am a pharmacy major and it is tough to find an internship in New York City. The school makes you do internships that are unpaid, but it is always nice to do more besides that. It is difficult to find extra internship experience. I am trying to find one but it's been hard. Chain stores allow students to work just twice a week during the semester when they are busy, but the city is currently saturated with workers.

3 College Junior

Majors: Getting into the pharmacy program wasn't very difficult for me. I simply applied as a high school senior and I was accepted for this program. The application was online and it was a simple process. The application was also free and they don't ask for a college essay.

Majors: I picked the pharmacy major because I enjoyed learning biology and chemistry in high school. I enjoyed many of the courses that I took and I would take it all again if I had the choice. I can't see myself doing anything else. My goal is to work at a chain pharmacy with other coworkers that are just as dedicated to serving the community. The job market is not looking that great because there are many school opening up and many students applying to become pharmacists.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
