Campus Food: Small cafeteria on Staten Island Campus. Kind staff. Not a lot of variety on food. Would recommend not getting meal plan if you're on a budget.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Greek life is too emphasized on the Staten Island Campus

Majors: Plan on having an internship to have a new life experience that will be helpful in my future. From what I heard it's not too hard, if you work hard in school you will be able to get what you want.

Overall Experience: It has been amazing. I love the growth I have achieved, the connections I have made, and the friends that I met and love now. My education has also been such a key factor, and the people I talk to always promote the best in me. I love my school and the environment I am in. One of my favorite experiences so far has been my time with Orientation. I worked this summer with the program, and I have gained so much from it. My school is unique because it promotes Vincentian policies, meaning they promote community service and helping those in need.

Greek Life: It is highly promoted on campus by the students, but no one is forced to join. They are a very lively segment of our school.

5 College Sophomore

Local Area: It's great. It's not too far from my home so I'm not complaining.

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: None of this exists on my campus, we have a strict policy on drugs and alcohol.

5 College Sophomore

Administration: The campus has a student conduct board that has a very organized justice system that aims to keep the school a great place. They are very strict with the conduct.

Parking: I am not a driver myself, so I have nothing to say here.

Academics: In the Legal Studies program, we are educated to the best of our ability. We are given assignments that really train us for the profession we are pursuing. The program itself is approved by a law program that oversees this specific major. They have set requirements and check up on the professors for proof that they are properly assigning things for us.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The registration process is very easy, the advisors provide great help for us. The professors are extremely passionate and smart. The workload is heavy but that is reasonable for my prelaw path.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: It is great to be a part of the legal studies program at my school. The program itself is followed by a higher law program that requires hard proof that we are being educated at the right level. They require around 6 hours of work at home per day, so the professors assign accordingly. In addition we are given great research tool such as Westlaw and Westlaw Next.

Majors: Currently I work with the New Student Orientation program on campus. With the program, I became an orientation leader through intensive training on leadership and self improvement. I served as an orientation leader in the summer of 2013 and worked into the fall semester. I have not had an internship yet, but I am looking into getting one for my junior year of classes.

Weather: I love looking at my campus every season of the year!

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
