2 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: There is not room on campus. We often resort to using an empty classroom for studying. Clubs suck.

Parking: If you come in early you can get a great spot and the permit is only 100 dollars for the year. If you come late there are spots but they are high up in the garage.

Weather: The winter is pretty cold and the wind is very strong since we are located at the highest point in Queens.

Overall Experience: I do like the students and the atmosphere is okay however I wish I would have gotten into a more prestigious academy to be more competitive.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I am a transfer student and I have been at my school for only two semesters. I can honestly say that I fell in love with my school and it was the best choice for me and my future. My school has so many opportunities and so many outlets, it would be hard not to find something that fits. The class sizes are perfect, there is an office always willing to help, there is a variety of food, and 14,000 students where you are bound to meet at least 1 great friend. On top of all of the academic and career support, there are hundreds of events that go on each day. There are organizations that put events together, and then there are events such as the winter week that give back to students and take some of our stress away. Great school and I would definitely do it again.

Guys & Girls: Since my school is very diverse, there is a mixture of girls and guys. All ranging in very attractive to not so attractive to very smart to not so smart. I would say one could be able to find their college sweetheart or even the tutor that helped them get an A in that class they needed to graduate.

Overall Experience: What makes my school uniqe is the environment that it puts a person in. It makes everyone feel safe and gives every person to have a choice between what food to have and what class to take.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

St. John’s has its ups and downs, but most students agree, sometimes reluctantly, that the bad outweighs the good. Some argue that with the high tuition cost, students should receive better student services and facilities. The school’s motto is, “We are St. John’s,” but does the administration listen when students speak? The school needs more dorm rooms, better computers, and more people ready to help students instead of giving them the runaround or transferring their calls to someone else. These things are not luxuries, but rather necessities to keep the students and the institution running smoothly.

Going to St. John’s is a good experience, and the name only seems to impress many people, which is a good trademark to use in the workforce. The overwhelming majority of teachers cares about its students. Check out St. John’s extensively before attending to see if it can meet your needs, especially monetary-wise. In 1870, when St. John’s was founded by the Vincentian community, it was supposed to be an answer for the poor students who couldn’t afford schooling; now many feel SJU is making the students poor. The costs are going up each year, but the financial aid is basically staying the same, making it hard for students to attend because of the lack of funding. Explore it for yourself. There’s plenty to enjoy and benefit from, but don’t get caught up in hype.
