5 College Freshman

Campus Resources: Every single faculty member that I have spoken to here is so kind and helpful, and they really seem to care about you and what is going on in your life and they are more than willing to help the students in any way that they can.

4 College Freshman

Student Body: Any "type" of person that you can imagine, you can find at Southern Maine Community College. People come from all different backgrounds, heritages, even countries.

5 College Freshman

Career Services: My Career Services counselor knows a lot about transferring and applying for jobs fresh out of college, and she is very kind and helpful.

Overall Experience: The courses were very helpful, it was exactly what it needed to be. The professors are nice and helpful. There is a lot of variety of courses. The class style depends on the professor teaching the class, they all vary. The class sizes are nice, there are not a lot of people in each class.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Even though Southern Maine Community College is a community college, I was expecting a full ride there. My family is not rich, not even middle class. My mom recently lost her job and my dad owns his own small auto shop. I thought the school would realize that I need more money. Although, while applying for loans, they were very helpful in that field.

Academic Experience: I am an undeclared major. I always had an idea of where I was going but I change my mind. I take courses I don't need anymore. I thought I was going into the medical field, I took so many courses in the science field. I now have a bad GPA because of the classes I do not need.

Academic Experience: All the professors were nice, understanding, helpful and cared about every student. The workload is okay, it all depends on which professor. There is nothing no one can't handle, it is very reasonable.

Campus Resources: All the resources are very helpful. Whenever I need help studying, the student center helps me with that. If they don't know the answer, they find people who do. When I want to go to the fitness center, it is very easy to navigate.

Academic Flexibility: All the teachers I have had were very good on their curriculum. They handed them out on the first day of class and followed them to a tee. They were very organized and very good.

Student Body: The student body at Southern Maine Community College is very diverse. Since there is a lot of older people attending school, and trying to get a degree, there is a lot of people of different ages attending. Everyone is very friendly and lends a hand whenever you are in need of help. Since it is mostly a commuting school, there are a lot of people who don't actually make a lot of friends. I am one of them. Since I go back and forth to school and home, I don't have a lot of chances to make friends. In the classroom, there is no time to small talk since the professor is talking. I wish there were a lot of clubs to attend. There are only a handful of them.

Tuition & Financial Aid: I am honestly being paid by the school to go to school. It's amazing!

Student Body: Everyone is so accepting of who you are as a persona and are willing to get to know you before judging.

3 College Freshman

Academic Flexibility: The only bad experience that I have had is that I had a course cancelled less than a week before it was supposed to start and was unable to get into another class to fill the slot.

3 College Freshman

Campus Resources: There is a huge variety of clubs and such if you chose to get involved, but many students do not as they mainly live off campus and have lives outside of school.

5 College Freshman

Campus Resources: There is access to the internet everywhere on campus with an insane number of copies per semester making it easy to print whatever you need to.

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: My school is right on the beach making it easy to go study in the sand in between classes and everyone is so welcoming as well.

3 College Freshman

Online Courses: In high school I felt much better about the online courses that I was taking. In college, the professors just kind of let you fall off the bandwagon and do not put any effort into trying to help you succeed.

5 College Freshman

Academic Experience: By being a liberal arts major there is a ton of flexibility in the courses I am able to take which is a huge bonus and something I have thoroughly enjoyed. Another plus is that the workload really has not been too bad.

5 College Freshman

Academic Experience: There is such a wide variety of classes, and teachers at my school that there honestly something for everyone.

5 College Sophomore

Student Body: I got a tour from a student who was very nice.

3 College Sophomore

Tuition & Financial Aid: Im having a hard time paying for college.

3 College Junior

Academic Flexibility: Yet again with this not being the main campus it does make the class choices much harder, this being because we don't have a lot of class rooms compared to the amount of class that are held. It would be nice with they were able to have at least two different time periods for some classes. For an example my Physics II class next semester there is only one slot and its a hard time for me to get there.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: With the Brunswick Navel Air Station closed they were able to convert many of the older buildings into our classrooms and common areas. Although the bathrooms in the main building are very dirty, dark and not very pleasant, the rest of the buildings are very nice. Hopefully by the fall or spring semester they will have a chow hall, and some dorms opened up so that there are many more new items and new faces too.

4 College Junior

Student Body: There are many different types of people that go to SMCC. At the Brunswick location I am at the age of students ranges from 17-65. This makes the classrooms very lively, there seems too be much more communication throughout the age difference.

1 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: When I told my school my mother wasn't helping me in anyway, including filling paper work out on her financial part, they told me there was nothing they could do at all. Thus I had to pay for school out of pocket with no Financial Aid at all.
