Facts & Statistics

Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Although it's getting better, SRU is still a "suitcase college"-many people head home for the weekend after Friday classes are over.
  • Decide on a major early, rather than staying undeclared untill senior year.
  • Frats are only fun for the first few weeks of school.
  • It takes a while to walk to class, especially in the snow-so leave early.
  • Most students here graduate in five years.
  • The majority of class sizes are small-your teacher will notice if you are absent!
  • The weather in Slippery Rock leaves much to be desired. There aren't many days when you won't be wearing a heavy coat or carrying an umbrella.
  • You have to take at least 15 credits a semester to graduate on time.
  • You will get parking tickets.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Interviews are not required for admission. If you wish to schedule an interview, you can contact the Admissions office at (800) 929-4778
Campus Tours
A campus visit consists of a presentation by an Admissions Counselor and, when classes are in session, a campus tour led by a "Pride Guide." Campus visits begin at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. most days, but call for details, just in case. Please allow about two hours for your visit. You'll be in a very small group as you learn more about Slippery Rock and tour campus, and you might even meet a future classmate. You and your family may ask any individual questions one-on-one after the presentation, if you choose. If you would like to meet another person at the University, such as a professor or coach, please contact Admissions well ahead of time so you can discuss special arrangements and work around your visit and tour. Call Admissions at (800) 929-4778 to schedule your visit.
Overnight Visits
Overnight visits are strictly for students who have been accepted and are planning to enroll at SRU. Orientation at SRU is held throughout the month of June for all incoming students. They spend the night in the dorms and get to know the campus, meet with advisors, register for classes, and get to know the other students. Students interested in being recruited for sports also have the option of spending a night at SRU. They are chaperoned by a member of the team that they wish to join and get to experience life at SRU as an athlete.
