Greek Life: A lot of Greeks are engaging to help with recruitment, they host socials for any and everyone, regardless if you join, and always show support of others and school spirit

Athletics: We have a lot of school spirit, a lot of students attend the bigger games, and there's no doubt that there's always student involvement.

Overall Experience: I have great friends, roommates, and teammates. The school is very friendly and professors are helpful and want you to succeed.

Health & Safety: We don't see a lot of crime on campus. There have been more issues off campus for certain, but even those are few and far between. Having university police definitely adds to the security of campus, and in addition we have good relationships with them because they're involved in the community. I know I personally feel mostly safe on campus because of the measure taken to make it so. There are emergency buttons placed throughout the campus for extreme situations, but it's never come to that thankfully.

Campus Housing: Speaking from the perspective of someone who has never lived on campus, but has frequented nearly all of the buildings from friends who do live/have lived on campus, housing is pretty decent. I can't give detailed pros and cons, but I think the pros of convenience and social atmosphere outweigh the cons of space, amenities, and difficulty with housing processes. I've heard my fair share of horror stories, but I've also heard a lot of good about the buildings.

Greek Life: What's nice about the Greek scene is their strong sense of community within their own sororities or fraternities, and even among each other. It's a fantastic way to meet people, and from what I know through my friends who are involved, the friends you make are great ones. It's true that they tend to throw more formal parties, but they aren't the only ones. Invites are somewhat exclusive, but the frats and sors aren't really, so they extend them often enough to the entire community. What I find most refreshing is that the stereotypical brother or sister (the airheads and meatheads) involved in Greek life are few. As students and community members, the majority of them are excellent. They care about people, good causes, their schoolwork, and careers. That's what I attribute non-Greeks having a friendly view toward Greeks to. We're all just students, good people, co-existing. Whether you're Greek or not isn't a big deal.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The major and the professors in Slippery Rock University are great. The Exercise Science major in SRU is challenging and really prepares the students for their future career. The course itself encourages the students to do more research within and outside of the field of their choice and is designed to help students succeed.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The career center/services really helps the students in their career prospects. They help students write and polish their resumes and cover letters. They also help students with interviews via a mock interview.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The safety and security around campus are decent. I did not see anything too overtop aside from drinking and such.

Campus Housing: Campus Housing through my experience was great. It was a very easy process, and the students have multiple options who which type of housing they want and If they want to live in a Living Learning Community. The rooms were equipped with furniture plus a mini fridge and a microwave. The dorms are a decent distance from classroom buildings.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: The Greek life on campus is decent as far as I can tell. I do not participate in Greek life.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletic facilities are decent are far as I can tell. I do not play sports.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I would choose Slippery Rock University once more if I could do it all over again. SRU is very affordable and close to home. The campus is very beautiful, and the campus size is perfect. It is not so big that a student would feel lost in the crowd nor is it too small that the students would feel as if there is nothing to do. It's the same for the class sizes as well. On top of which, my major (Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences) is one of the best the state.

Drug Safety: There is a lot of drug use in off campus apartments.

Picking a college is a tough decision and nobody expects you to have your whole life charted out upon high school graduation. Fortunately, Slippery Rock can help you find yourself by exposing you to a laundry list of opportunities and organizations. Sure, students gripe about Weisenfluh food, the miserable weather, and the Ticket Nazi, but SRU students are in it together. Here, you are not treated as a number, but, in many cases, as a family member. Most students agree that the people are what make this place. You will not only make lifelong friendships and connections with fellow students but with professors and local townspeople, as well. It is highly difficult to find a school where professors sincerely care about you, and not just about their research and side projects.

In recent years, Slippery Rock has been trying to overcome the party school stigma that has overshadowed its sophisticated academic programs. Known for many programs, including education, physical therapy, and parks and recreational management, Slippery Rock offers high quality at a low price. Remember that a well-rounded education does not have to translate into millions of dollars in student debt. It is highly recommended that before you commit yourself to any school, visit the campus and see if it feels right. Though some schools look terrific on paper, you may be disappointed upon arrival. Slippery Rock offers something for everyone, and it’s highly recommended that you get involved and make the most of your time here. At Slippery Rock, we play hard, we work hard, and most agree that they would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Go Rock!
