Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Ask teachers (or anyone else that you deem appropriate) that know you well for recommendations.
  • Be involved in your local community.
  • Be sure to call admissions and schedule a tour/interview/etc.
  • Be yourself. Don't try to fit any "Skidmore mold" because there isn't one.
  • Go on a campus tour.
  • Have a strong academic background and work hard in high school!
  • Have an on-campus interview (if possible).
  • Highlight your interest in learning; remember, you're applying to school.
  • If you want to apply Early Decision, do it! (There's also Early Decision II.)
  • Show depth of interest and passion-quality of extracurriculars, not quantity.
  • Skidmore is constantly looking for more diverse classes, for students from different socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds.
  • Take time on your personal essay; Skidmore wants to get to know you!
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Freshman year, you'll most likely be put into a triple. Learn to live with others!
  • Pre-orientation is awesome. You'll meet a group of people before school starts, including your pre-orientation leaders, which are older students-a nice connection to have when starting off at college.
  • Yes, it snows. Bring snow boots and/or rain boots, and of course, a winter jacket. If you have a car, bring an ice scraper and possibly a shovel-just in case.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Interviews for freshmen and transfers require reservation, and they typically take place Monday through Friday between 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. They also take place on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Group information sessions also require a reservation and take place at 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Saturdays.
Campus Tours
No reservation is necessary for campus tours. They take place Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:45 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 12 p.m. The regular campus tours are approximately 90 minutes. There are also tours available for science students and visual and performing arts students.
Overnight Visits
Skidmore does not organize overnight visits anymore; however, if you have a friend or relative currently at Skidmore, ask him or her if you can stay for a night! If not, you can contact Admissions about sitting in on a class with a current student.
