4 College Junior

Health & Safety: We have security on our and Emmanuel's campus and the emergency blue lights

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: We have awesome campus security and safety. Due to it being an all girls' college, Simmons dorms, residence quad, and bathrooms all feel much safer in general as many times there are no men in our buildings. Simmons is very much a dry campus so if you are looking to go out, it's easy to do so, but there is not much drugs or alcohol on campus. Campus security is great.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: Campus is very safe overall. We get notifications if something is going on in the area.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: We have really helpful and friendly officers who are there when you need it. You can catch them everywhere on campus

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Our Res campus has gates that close at 11 every night and the only way on campus from then until 6 am is through a security office. Only people with Simmons students are allowed on campus. Walking between the campuses late at night can sometimes be scary, but you can call public safety and they will escort you to the other campus.

It would seem that in such an urban environment, the campus would have more security measures, but students generally are comfortable with the precautions taken. The flexibility of Simmons’s policies is generally appreciated by students who feel like an adult and not like they are still under their parents’ watchful eyes. Within the iron gates of the Residence Campus, students generally feel a strong sense of security. Each night, the security staff locks the entrance gates to the quad, and they are also closed during Red Sox home games. Students and their guests are then required to enter through Simmons Hall, and entrance is available only through swiping an ID card.

The Academic Campus is only two blocks away, and resident students walk the Fens to and from class confidently—the only thing that poses any threat is weaving between cars across Boylston. After dark, an escort service is provided for students for the walk over. On-campus security personnel patrol the residence buildings and the Main Campus Building. Two police officers dedicated to the College with a support staff of unarmed officers. There is much debate over the people in these positions because many of them are Northeastern students filling co-ops. As an added measure, students are given the option of withholding their phone number, which provides anonymity and additional safety, not to mention protection from prank phone calls.
