4 College Sophomore

Administration: Not much restrictions unless going into Science building

3 College Freshman

Administration: Our campus is very strict about keeping your guest close to you when you leave your dorm room. We need to have them an arms length away from us at all times. They are also very strict on drinking, drug use, and loud noise in the dorms.

4 College Freshman

Administration: I think that the Simmons administration gives its students enough freedom to explore themselves and get accustomed to a city-pace lifestyle while also being strict enough to keep students on academic track. Professors and administrators take the honor code VERY seriously, so be sure not to make any mistakes in that area when you're doing academic work. Residence life policies are enforced fairly well, but it really all depends on your RA and if they're actively checking to make sure that residents are following the rules. I've never heard of anyone meeting with honor boards or receiving serious consequences for violations, but then again, I'm not sure that any major violations have actually occurred.

5 College Student

Administration: They are very reasonable, and accommodate the students' needs.

They are reasonably strict which is a good change for me who went to a strict prison high school.

3 College Freshman

Administration: They don't always know what actually goes on, but it is like that at many schools.

Students are smart about their behavior on campus, and the balance between responsibility and behavior is reflected in the tone of campus strictness. You are more likely to get a request from a neighbor to turn down your speakers than be monitored for drugs or alcohol use. Unless your behavior is stupid enough to result in calling attention to yourself, there is no need to be paranoid. Quiet hours deter most drunken students from screaming through the quad, though not all of them. Parties on campus are never large enough to call attention—only so many people can squeeze into a dorm room the size of a closet. The security guards patrol for unwanted visitors and parking violators, but they aren’t looking to find students to punish.

It is hard to find an incident that calls for more than a visit to the Honor Board or Judicial Board. Students are responsible for their behavior, and security is geared more toward student safety and protection than the monitoring of their behavior. Alcohol and drug violations are addressed by the Residence Campus Judicial Board, and academic violations are addressed by the Honor Board. You are more likely to be caught with a hotplate, wall hangings, or other fire hazards than to be reprimanded or caught for illegal behavior. So don’t try to sneak into Bartol or walk off with a plate, and if you have a candle, beware! Academic violations are taken very seriously—cheating and plagiarism are prosecuted. Students must sign Honor Code contracts at the beginning of their time at Simmons.
