Drug Safety: Not Much – not much on campus, alcohol, some weed, not much more. pub safety is pretty strict

Overall Experience: I Love It – Simmons College is a great place to be. The faculty is very respectful and friendly. As long as your honest and respectful here, you will get the exact college experience your looking for! The students are very trusted here, which makes it able to make your own decisions in a respectful and reasonable way. Being an all girls school, the relationships I have developed here are lifelong and strong. Although Simmons College is very costly, I could not be happier anywhere else but here.

Campus Food: Gets Boring – The dining hall at first was awesome. After a while the meals became repetitive and there didnt seem to be that much of a variety. Simmons College has two dining halls, "The Fens" and "Bartol Hall" each have different types of foods to satisfy all students. The meal plans are also partially accepted at some of the surrounding schools such as Emmanuel, Wentworth, and MASSART

Campus Quality: The Library Is Fantastic – Being a College of the Fenway, Simmons College has the best library compared to its surrounding schools. The resources they offer, and the library staff exceeds expectations. There is always someone there to help, and you can always find what your looking for.

Weather: The Walks Are Tough – The weather doesn't affect being on campus very much, but having to walk back and forth from the academic campus seems much longer in the rain/snow.

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Nowhere to Go – There's not much of a party scene at all at Simmons, so you have to either go to another college or stick it out in your room.

Health & Safety: Very Safe – I feel completely safe there and the residence campus is fairly closed off, but anyone can walk on campus from the street and walk around.

Scholarships: College Is Expensive! Simmons College is definitely one of the most expensive schools to go to in the area. However, they give you a lot of financial aid if you need it and it is so easy to make an appointment with your financial aid adviser. Looking for scholarships is a great way to pay for school because many go untouched every year.

Administration: Not So Strict – Simmons has such a great reputation that students don't need to sign in their guests, which is great and so much more convenient than other schools. When it comes to theft or crime in the area, Simmons police always sends out informative emails and makes sure everyone is safe.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Clean Environment – There are people at Simmons who do smoke and drink, but they are definitely the minority. Smoking and drinking is never a problem on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: Fenway Dining – Since the Simmons dorms are right along Brookline Avenue and next to Boyston Street, it's also where the restaurants and entertainment is located. I enjoyed eating at UFood Grill, which is a healthy burger and smoothie place, and Berryline where it sells frozen yogurt! Since Simmons is around this Fenway area, we get discounts and can use our meal points!

Health & Safety: I Feel Safe – I am a commuter at Simmons College, so I am especially aware of the safety and security on campus. I've always felt like I was safe. Just as long as you don't stay too late around campus and walk on the sidewalks with street lamps, you're good to go.

Overall Experience: The study body is great! All students are friendly and there is a very inclusive and diverse environment.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: The Drug Scene Isn't Big – During my time so far at Simmons I have not encountered many issues with drugs and alcohol. Most of that scene is off campus at the larger universities.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Woman's Sports Are Priority, but School Lacks Spirit – Simmons College is an all-women institution so women's sports are the one and only priority when it comes to athletics. The coaches and athletic directors and trainers are amazing. The teams are quite competitive. However, the school body lacks spirit and there is never much of a turn out at games.

Party Scene: No Parties – there are no parties at simmons! if u want to go out u need to know people at other schools

Campus Food: bartol has the worst food, in the last month I've been there 3 times one time ending with me curled into a ball feeling like i was dying. they do have good french fries and ice cream

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: Process Went Pretty Smoothly – I have received fantastic financial aid here and it all went along pretty smoothly. Unfortunately, not everyone here has that same experience.

Campus Quality: The facilities at Simmons are great! We have a big wellness center where there are many dance studios, a gym, an exercise room, and a huge pool. I also love our library. It's cozy and pretty advanced in technology to make printing and copying an easier experience for us.

Local Area: Simmons College is located in the heart of Boston near Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Socks. There are many museums and it's a big tourist attraction so there is always something to do and look forward to. There are also many colleges in this small city so there are a lot of college student activities where all the colleges come together to enjoy.

Diversity: Very Diverse – Simmons College is a very diverse community. It is an all woman's college but other than that many different elasticities economic backgrounds political beliefs religions and sexual orientations can be found all throughout campus.

Health & Safety: I've never felt unsafe. I live maybe 15 minutes off campus and I have two classes that get out when it's dark. Or sometimes I have a late night with a friend and need to walk back at 1 in the morning.

But Escorts and EVERYWHERE around campus. Go with your gut. If you don't feel safe for some reason, call them. Or more likely, if they see a girl walking by herself at night they'll bike over and ask if you'd like them to come along. Very friendly and they wait at intersections a lot, so if you don't want to call you'll see one there more often then not.

Drexel PD and Philly PD literally crawl the streets. There are so many police here that I have never felt safer walking alone.

Overall Experience: I have had an incredible experience at Simmons. The professors are amazing. They truly care about their students and do everything in their power to help you succeed. The experiences I've had outside of Simmons too, like study abroad and internships have been great learning experiences for me.

The sense of community on campus too is great. Everyone here is very accepting and respectful of others. Being in walking distance to so many other colleges gives you many opportunities to meet other college students. I personally think Simmons is the best of both worlds because we get the wonderful experience of having only powerful women in the classroom, but at the same time you get the opportunity to mingle with people from co-ed colleges in the area. Whoever says that "everyone who goes to Simmons is a lesbian" could not be more wrong. People who say that are just completely ignorant and don't accept diversity. There is a good mix of all different types of people here. We have a very diverse community with people from all sorts of different backgrounds. I've made incredible friends during my time at Simmons and I've had an amazing college experience here.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing at Simmons is very separate from the college because the college is in the city of Boston. Finding an apartment is completely up to the student, and the college is not involved in the process. There are many apartments close by to the academic campus. Apartments in Boston can be very expensive. They also can feel less safe after living on-campus at Simmons and having 24-hour security. You also don't feel that sense of community as much as when you live on-campus.

Campus Quality: Nursing Is the Way to Go – Simmons is among the top schools in Boston for Nursing as they are affiliated with many hospitals.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

It is the mix of extracurriculars, academics, environment, and nurturing that leads Simmons women to enjoy their experience. The surprising amount of transfers into the College supports the claims of students. Students who have survived their first year, with all its ups and downs and acclimations, seem to be happy with their decision. Dix Scholars, the older undergraduates on campus, are welcomed just as much as students coming into school at the traditional age. Community is valued, and the support benefits all undergraduates. Close-knit relationships with faculty and instructors catapult students into their professions and evoke tears when it comes time to graduate and say good-bye.

Being in Boston provides professional opportunities for its students when it comes to picking internships and finding jobs after graduation. The urban environment fills a social gap that the absence of Greek life or men on campus could create. The winters pose a challenge to out-of-state students not used to the area’s rough and extremely cold Nor’easters. The weather is not the only environmental challenge. Though the all-women’s environment often takes getting used to, students are generally happy about their decision and excited by the chances of involvement and leadership that not being in a coeducational situation provides. Students at neighboring institutions often share horror stories about being just a number in their school’s eyes—this can’t be said about Simmons. This is not your typical college experience. Students come here to study and experiment with their identity, growing socially and academically. Simmons students don’t just come to school to party, but to become women.
