Campus Housing: The housing process is complicated, RAs don't help

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on campus provides the opportunity to meet people your age, but is not worth the cost. Freshman dorms have strict rules, such as no toasters and specific extension cords. There are dining areas close to the dorms, but the food is mediocre at best. It is close to the museum and the bus stops which is nice if you do not have your own mode of transportation. The social atmosphere is not lively and the employees act as if they have a million other places they would rather be. There is a convenient store in one of the freshman dorms that sells basic things like microwavable food and energy drinks. Living off campus is recommended because it's cheaper and most off campus residences are closer to grocery stores and other things of that nature.

Campus Housing: The thing about SCAD, is that for any part of your undergrad year, there are so many housing options, which is always great! But lets look at freshman housing since I'm a freshman and I'd lived in two of the four options. Turner house is the dorm they show on SCAD Day and all admission tours. It's the newest dorm and they only give you perks about it. I've lived in Turner with two other girls. They try to give off as many double occupancies as possible but I was stuck in a triple. I did get a discount on housing though. I decided to move to W at the Hive, which I'll get into later. Across the street from Turner, is Turner Annex. Tannex has private, gated in parking, and it's the only dorm with inside access to your room. The other three dorms all have the doors on the outside with no hallways. Tannex also has a pool. One thing about Tannex is that you need to live in Tannex to get into Tannex. Our student IDs are coded so you can't get in if you live in Turner/W/D or anywhere else. W at the Hive is my favourite dorm personally. Granted it's an old motel, there are bugs all around, and my room is on a slant that probably shouldn't be here, it's a cozy place with a ton of parking. It's right next to the hive and the cafe where as Turner+Tannex have a short walk. But it levels out because D and W have a short walk to the bus stops that are directly next to Turner+Tannex. W has a volleyball court and a grill that anyone can use, but you need to get your own supplies if you want to cook or play. I moved to W because I thought the size of the rooms were fair and that the bathroom set up made more sense. By the way, all the dorms have private bathrooms that only you and your roommate(s) share, which is AWESOME. The final and least liked dorm is D. The reason behind this is because the rooms are unreasonably small. I've walked by a few and they are smaller than half that size of my room. D also has a pool that is open to everyone and you don't need your ID to get into it.
