Party Scene

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Freshman year the party scene is the best, it's still great sophomore and junior year especially if you live/know people who live off campus. Parties start early and end early, nothing is going on past 1 or 2 am. They are fun without getting rowdy and people are friendly and usually respectful although there's always that one person that's too drunk to be there

3 Recent Alumnus

Party Scene: The parties are usually all the same and due to the small number of students, you see a lot of the same people.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Parties are good but have a tendency to get shut down

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Really fun, theres always something to do pretty much any night of the week if you chose to go out.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: If SCU does one thing right, it's the parties. People here love to have a good time and this reflects in the quality of the parties they throw.

Given its small size and residential location, Santa Clara offers few nightlife options for students. "Going out" usually consists of attending small house parties or bar hopping around campus, and while there are occasionally frat parties, they don't happen as consistently as at larger schools. Santa Clara nightlife comes most alive during spring quarter when the weather gets nicer and students tend to have lighter courseloads. To take advantage of the beautiful weather, most "nightlife" activities are bumped up to afternoon "day parties" hosted by fraternities or off-campus houses.

Because it's hard to get in to small parties if you don't know many people, partying regularly as a freshman often requires befriending older students or joining Greek life. For students ages 21-and-up, there are a few bars close to campus, but clubbing requires a cab ride to San Jose or a Caltrain trip to Palo Alto or San Francisco. The bars near campus are only one to three blocks away and are pretty inexpensive; some even offer weekly events such as drink specials or live music featuring SCU student bands.
