3 College Junior

Athletics: Sports aren't huge here, but there are options for people who want to participate. Current gym is okay, but an amazing new one is currently being built.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Athletics are seen around campus but they are not as big as other univeristies like UCLA or Stanford. However, many people join them because they are passionate towards a specific sport. There are a lot of people who are in the soccer, basketball and volleyball teams both male and female. Otis always great to see student involvement in sports and clubs at San Francisco state.

3 College Senior

Athletics: As a Division II school, nobody feels any motivation to attend sporting events. Football is nonexistent and the other sports, basketball, baseball, volleyball, wrestling, and track, are just mediocre. They try to get the student body interested in attending and supporting, but results are slim. It's a shame because the facilities look decent.

Athletics: I wish the sports were bigger at SFSU! School spirit definitely needs to increase, and there's definitely potential and opportunity to do so.

Wait. What? SFSU has sports teams? Really? Never heard anything. The amount of students participating in sports is small in comparison to the large amount of students attending the University. School spirit is at a low, despite the trials and triumphs of various sports teams on campus. For a school with a population of more than 30,000, it is extremely unfortunate that students lack school spirit for sports that really deserve it.

Intramural sports seem to be a much more popular option on campus. Unlike varsity, fun sports such as SFSU's infamous coed rugby team are so popular in fact that they have fan-flooded Facebook pages. If a student is interested in joining a sport purely for fun and friends, the safest bet is to join one of the many intramurals, ranging from swimming to tennis.

School Spirit
School spirit is not a quality that many students have. Most first-year students are not happy to be going to a CSU school. But after the first year, school spirit jumps in popularity for upperclassmen. That is when the number of activities starts to blossom, like a personal SFSU pillow fight group and coed rugby.
Getting Tickets
Getting tickets to sporting events is both easy and cheap. Most evenings you can get in for free if you show your student ID card.
Best Place to Take a Walk
Lake Merced provides a 4.5-mile walk that is flat and has beautiful scenery of the lake, the wildlife, and the ocean landscape. There are benches throughout the walk, and many students and neighbors in the community use this path for biking and running.
