Off-Campus Dining: Birmingham has some pretty cool restaurants.

3 College Freshman

Administration: They are fairly strict about attendance but it's not to bad.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have never felt threatened on campus.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is really big on campus. They'll tell you that it's ok if it's not your thing and you want to stay independent but then people will start to treat you different. The majority of people on campus are Greek.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Some of the dorms aren't the best but you just have to search for the right one for you.

2 College Freshman

Transportation: You can walk to everything on campus but if you want to get off campus you are going to have to find a ride.

4 College Freshman

Technology: The computers on campus are great! They are all Macs and I have never had to wait for one. I however, love having my own computer so that I don't have to go to the computer lab every time I need to look something up or print. We have wireless internet all over campus but it's not the best. It's somewhat slow, especially when a lot of people are on it.

Local Area: There are few real attractions near by and they all very expensive.

Off-Campus Dining: Samford is located near Birmingham, AL so there are a good amount of food options near by.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Samford is in Alabama, resulting in the weather being rather warm most of the year. The winters are more mild which is nice, but during the summer, fall, and spring it is extremely humid outside.

2 College Sophomore

Athletics: I played on the basketball team last year and it was pathetic how little people cared. No one takes pride in the athletic teams on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Due to Samford being a smaller school, class sizes are smaller and the student-teacher interaction is better.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Samford can be a wonderful experience for students. While the first semester can be extremely difficult, with students being away from their families and friends for the first time, things become easier with perseverance. Students first need to get out of their comfort zones and invest in the hilarious, wonderful people who make up the Samford population.

That being said, the people make the experience worthwhile, and there are always opportunities to meet new people, whether it's free concerts on the quad, chilling next to the fountain in Ben Brown Plaza, renting the Vail movie room for "Glee" nights, Step Sing, or worshiping at RUF (Reformed University Fellowship). These are just some of the many things students can experience at Samford. Plus, the caring professors instill in students not only knowledge, but wisdom, preparing men and women for the future every time they step into the classroom. The liberal arts aspect prompts many to draw endless comparisons and similarities between different classes, teaching students to see the "big picture." In addition, the various convo speakers shed new light on issues that matter, making students take on new points of view about things rarely given a second thought.
