Transportation: My car is a necessity to get me to campus, because I live an hour away. There is a parking fee I have to pay every year and parking is horrible. The parking lots need a major renovation to accommodate the growing number or commuters.

3 College Junior

Transportation: I really do not know a lot about transportation, this is what I have heard from others. I am a commuter student do I drive my car.

Transportation is pretty much nonexistent at Sam Houston State, except for the vans that go to the off-campus apartment complex. But while there aren't a lot of transit options, most everything a student would need is within walking distance. Students' best bet is to make friends with classmates that have cars and find arrangements that way.

The city of Huntsville has minimal cab services and no public transportation, so a car is the best way to get around. For farther distances, an often-overlooked means of transportation is the Greyhound bus—there’s a station close to campus. Greyhound is great for traveling to long-distance locations, and it is reasonably priced. However, some students shy away from utilizing Greyhound’s services because of the station’s close proximity to a prison near campus. Overall, since public transportation is not a popular choice for travel, most students either walk or drive to get around.
