Overall Experience: I have loved SMC since the minute I stepped foot on campus. My classes are interesting, challenging, but not overly competitive, my dorm life experiences were welcoming and full of friendly girls, and the support systems on campus for struggling students are excellent, personal, and always available -- just to name a few things. SMC is a unique environment of all women, making it a perfect place to explore and find your own voice as a woman in the world. It provides a wonderful platform for success in the world, no matter what field you choose, by providing you with excellent writing skills, communication skills, and real world experience in the pre-professional majors.

Also, the social life is special. I have found my lifelong friends at SMC, something I am so grateful for, and our friendship was fostered because of the campus's quiet social scene. The social life on our campus is quiet -- Notre Dame or off campus are the places to party -- but that allows for real friendships to grow in the quiet and warm communities of our dorms.

The relationship with Notre Dame is tricky and sometimes problematic, but it does afford SMC some wonderful advantages. For example, SMC students can purchase student season tickets to football games (and other sports), can take up to 2 ND classes a semester at no additional charge, can use all their academic facilities (libraries, labs, etc), and are welcome to join their clubs, sports, and activities. This gives SMC a best-of-both-worlds feel, where our campus is small, quiet, and close knit and the campus across the street is large, social, has Division 1 sports, and is a research university. We can have and participate in both.

If I could do the college process all over again, I would always choose SMC. It is the right place for me and for many other young women, and I cannot sing its praises enough!

Off-Campus Housing: The school does not allow people to live off campus unless they are seniors. Therefore I do not know much about off-campus housing as I have not yet had the opportunity to look into myself.

Off-Campus Dining: Sometimes my buddies and I will tend to eat out too frequently to the point where our usual spots get old. But the college community is close to other communities where there are lots of fun restaurants, you just have to find them (and be willing to try new things).

Party Scene: There are no parties at Saint Mary's, but there are parties across the street at Notre Dame, you just have to find a way to get there. There are also off-campus parties.

Administration: There is quite a bit girls can get away with at Saint Mary's. The staff rarely pays attention to the real happenings on campus, but if it makes them look good then they most definitely pay attention to it. But on a day-to-day basis, girls can have anything in their dorms - alcohol, drugs, boys, etc - without a problem.

Scholarships: The financial aid process was fine for me. It went smoothly. I received scholarships from the school which makes it more affordable.

Campus Food: There is food for me to eat, so there should not be too many complaints on my behalf. But if you are a vegan or have allergies or different preferences, you may have a harder time finding things to eat. The food does get repetitive and the options are not great, but it works.

Campus Housing: I do not live too far off of campus, but decided to live in residence housing and it was definitely a good decision for me. I left my freshman year feeling more independent and confident thanks to living on my own, away from my family. My roommate was great, but for those who didn't enjoy their roommates, all was good because the school allows for room changes quite frequently.

Off-Campus Housing: There are some very nice apartment complexes that are close to campus but they are relatively expensive.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of cool places around but you need a car to get to most of them.

Administration: I love Saint Mary's and the administration is very helpful.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Saint Mary's could not offer me all the financial aid I needed but they were willing to work with me.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: There are always healthy options and if you are creative you can make some very yummy meals.

Campus Housing: I love the atmosphere on Campus! All the girls are so nice and it did not take long to call Saint Mary's my home.

Party Scene: Its not too crazy but there are things to do if you want.

Off-Campus Housing: I have not lived off campus yet but i am going through the process of applying for an apartment for my Senior year. It is costly but worth having a nice place where i can be independent. Dorm rooms are also expensive so it just depends on each individual person and how living on or off campus fits in their schedule and financial aid packages.

Campus Housing: I love it! It is an awesome environment even though sometimes it is hard to study in a Quint! There are many places where I can study in my own residence hall which is nice and quiet most of the time. The rooms are big in Holy Cross but it is furthest away from academic buildings which still is not very far.

Off-Campus Dining: I dont really know much about off campus dining. I have not had any problems with it though.

Health & Safety: I feel really safe on campus. There have been some incidents but I know that they are not common and that if something were to happen I would have many opportunities to be helped and I would be comfortable with getting help.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: It is not bad at all. There are rules for everything but the campus is very understanding and if you are in trouble wrongly they administrators will listen to your side of the story. They are good about giving out warnings before actually getting you in trouble which is helpful since not everyone knows all the rules.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I get really good feedback from all of my professors. They all really actually care about how I am doing in the course and as well as wondering how I am doing after I complete the course. I can go to them with anything. Class sizes are small which helps the learning opportunities. The variability of courses is good but there are not many time options so although sometimes they are offered it is hard to fit specific classes into a schedule.
