Local Area: Saint Louis is a hidden gem within the United States. I come from Los Angeles, CA where anyone can agree the nightlife and things to do are plentiful. Thus, coming to this city in the Midwest freshman year, my perceptions were there was probably nothing to do out here; however, my ignorance was proven wrong. I quickly became adjusted to Saint Louis life and this historical city impressed me. Students in Saint Louis can take advantage of many free city functions (ex. Saint Louis Zoo is for free and ranked one of the best zoos in the US, many weekends there are cultural festivals that take place in Forest Park, which is larger than New York's Central Park). There is the science center, city museum (a massive playground for children AND adults), Busch Stadium (Cardinals), Rams, Central West End and the Loop (multiple shopping boutiques and restaurants), Soulard area (tons of bars), Ball Park Village (brand new area with bars right next to the Busch Stadium), and much more. Saint Louis is on the rise and I am excited to see how much this city will grow in the next decade or so.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: The school is very close to busch stadium and which is next to the big city of Saint Louis. Also there is the zoo, botanical garden, and the science museum. Just a lot of attractions that people can go to.

3 College Freshman

Local Area: Saint Louis has a lot of nice attractions and things for students to do on the weekends. It's always nice to go to forrest park and get away from the campus.

3 College Freshman

Local Area: It's St. Louis, so safety is low, but the university campus is pretty safe in comparison.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: There's so much to do in St. Louis and at SLU! And having the metrolink is convenient, but a lot of cool places are actually within walking distance.

Midtown is the neighborhood that is home to St. Louis' Grand Center, the arts and entertainment district of the city. SLU students can get reduced ticket prices to most Grand Center attractions. The Fabulous Fox Theater, just a block north of SLU, is the destination for traveling musicals and plays, musical artists such as Lady Gaga and Jason Mraz, and comedians like Robin Williams. Midtown is also home to the Powell Symphony Hall, a variety of small concert venues, and some phenomenal restaurants. One of the major student attractions in Midtown is the Moolah Theater & Lounge, which features a movie theater with couches and a bowling alley.

Outside of Midtown, St. Louis has neighborhoods that offer students a variety of entertainment options. Washington Avenue is home to bars, restaurants, and the City Museum, an interactive playground made completely out of recycled materials from St. Louis. Forest Park is a short bike ride or car ride away and is home to summer musicals and plays, free museums, festivals, and miles of bike and walking trails. The Delmar Loop features the Pageant concert venue, famous St. Louis restaurants, and small boutiques, and it is a popular spot for SLU students and students from the other St. Louis colleges. Downtown is home to St. Louis' three professional sports teams: the Cardinals (MLB), Blues (NHL), and Rams (NFL). SLU has a student night at a Cardinals game once a semester and offers discounted student tickets. The Blues also have discounted student nights, and Rams tickets are easy to come by. The University has a great relationship with the St. Louis community, so SLU students are welcomed by business owners of every type.

Did You Know?
St. Louis has two distinctions: St. Louis City and St. Louis County. St. Louis County is home to the suburbs, so you'll hear natives say they're from Ladue, Crestwood, Kirkwood, and many more-but the mailing address for each suburb is still St. Louis.
