Technology: There are labs, cubicles, classrooms, and other niches available on a regular basis. However, during midterms and finals spots fill up quickly, beginning at 8am. This causes the networks to slow down a bit. During that time I suggest getting to the library early, finding an empty classroom, or just getting a laptop. Laptops are not required for class though.

Technology: There is wireless everywhere on campus. I have never had a problem finding a computer.

Technology: THE WIFI REALLY SUCKS. Crashes every 5-15 minutes, especially dependent upon which dorm you're in.

Technology: It is really important to have your own computer, but a printer is not necessary.

Technology: There are multiple computer labs across campus. They are all PCs (sorry Mac users). You get to print 1000 pages for free per semester. The network itself isn't bad, although sometimes the internet may go out. I would advise to bring your own laptop, since for most classes you can take notes with it during class. Plus, it's hard to find available computers during midterms and finals.

If you're in the library and you suddenly start hearing people sighing exasperatedly and shouting, "Why, Rhodes?", the Internet connection probably just went out. Unfortunately, this happens more frequently than students would like. The server is very "in and out," sometimes getting cut off for hours at a time. Naturally, it's incredibly frustrating since Rhodes professors rely so much on the Internet for posting assignments and PowerPoint presentations. Moodle is frequently used by professors to post quizzes, homework, and class announcements, and students cannot go more than a few hours without checking email if they don't want to miss anything important. The connection problems have decreased recently, though, as the ITS staff is working to fix current issues and prevent more from arising.

It isn't vital to have your own computer at Rhodes, but it is definitely recommended. It would make your life much easier. While there's usually not a wait to use one of the many campus computers, the computer labs do get crowded during finals week and even right before class, as students rush to print out last-minute papers.
