About
RISD (pronounced “RIZ-dee”) is a creative community founded in 1877 in Providence, Rhode Island. Today, we enroll 2,620 students hailing from 59 countries. Led by a committed faculty, they are engaged in 44 full-time bachelor's and master's degree programs and supported by a worldwide network of over 31,000 alumni who demonstrate the vital role artists and designers play in today’s society.
Beyond facts and figures, what is the spirit of this community? Through a cross-disciplinary curriculum of studio-based learning and rigorous study in the liberal arts, RISD students are encouraged to develop their own personal creative processes, but they are united by one guiding principle: in order to create, one must question. Experimental and Foundation Studies (EFS)
The three EFS studios—Drawing, Design and Spatial Dynamics—encourage students to think deductively and intuitively through assignments and critiques, and to investigate the potential of disparate materials as they take projects from concept to completion. Faculty members lead group critiques but critical dialogue among students is also important in helping their work reach its full potential.

Rhode Island School of Design Reviews
One of the biggest things I would like to see change is for RISD to be much more diverse. There wasn't a lot of diversity at the school when I was there. I would like to see more BIPOC students in the classrooms.
The other change I would like to see is that RISD didn't offer many scholarships at the time. There were very few opportunities for people who could not afford the school, even with financial aid, to receive monetary support. I found this disappointing, especially since RISD has billionaire alums.
