Party Scene: SU dances are mostly meh, but fun. Not a party school really.

Party Scene: All people do is take a lot of drugs and then sit in silence in a room. Most Reedies don't know how to party and the school is so small that if you do party with some people you will be bored of them by sophmore year. If your looking to party in a traditional college way, reed is not for you.

Party Scene: Most weekend nights there are off campus parties or dances in the SU, but sometimes, if the stars and due dates align, many people are too worn out/broke to throw parties, but you can always hang out with your friends and throw one in the dorms, or sit around and wallow. It kind of depends on the attitude you bring. You're ready to party? You'll find something. Want to chill out, take it easy? You'll find something to do. Want to sleep? You have a bed. Want to study? That's respected and admired. This is a very "work hard play hard" kind of school, but you will not be pressured to do anything you want to do. I've met maybe a couple of people who look down on substance-free people, but people who judge people like that are few and far between. Substance free is not going to be deleterious toward your social life. Do what feels comfy, and you'll do great!

Most Reedies do not have a strong grasp on Portland's nightlife. Since the Portland nightlife mostly hinges on being 21 or older, most Reedies either stay on campus, visit off-campus parties, or wait until they are 21 to fully peruse Portland's selections. Despite the age restrictions, Portland's club and concert scene doesn't fail to please. Portland offers numerous clubs with good drinks, live music, and all the dancing you could want.

If you aren't 21, then coffeehouses and other entertainment options are available, but they aren't as prevalent as the clubs, concert halls, and bars. Reedies, although generally preferring to party on or around campus, do occasionally leave the library to venture to a theater, coffeehouse, or around town. Additionally, students find that most non-club places (with a few coffeehouse exceptions) close rather early for their tastes, with many places shutting their doors between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. In all, nightlife exists in Portland, but it isn't as conducive to people under 21 as many Reedies would like.

Organization Parties
Reedies know how to party on campus. Besides the occasional campus bonfire, numerous formals and balls occur throughout the year to satiate the on-campus partying needs; these include Winter Formal, Spring Formal, Harvest Ball, a Masquerade Ball, a Drag Ball, and a Fetish Ball. Additionally, after classes let out in the spring, the campus sponsors a three-day cathartic event called Renn Fayre, where the seniors celebrate the turning-in of their theses and everyone celebrates the end of classes.
Did You Know?
There are a few options if you're not 21 and seek a late-night treat and possibly some music. The Pied Cow is open late and has good ambiance. Additionally, there is the Rimsky-Korsakoffee House, which has live music, good treats for snacking, and an interesting bathroom.
