Health & Safety

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: The Health Center on campus is one of the most inconveniently located buildings on campus and no one who actually needs medicine or any thing from there would even want to go there. The campus is fairly safe. I've never had a problem but some people have.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The health center is literally in the middle of the parking lot so you have to walk really far. You also have to make an appointment so god forbid if you're really sick.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: there was one case of sexual assault within my first semester at ramapo with multiple students involved, however, that's the only real threat i've seen throughout the entire semester.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Campus is pretty safe for such a small campus. Some incidents have occurred but programs were in place for prevention and help.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: For the most part Ramapo is very safe, the only hazard seems to be bears. Only recently have we had a scandal regarding the sexual assault on campus. It was unnecessarily blown out of proportion, and one of the very few problems we have ever had on campus. Ramapo is very safe, and public safety is always patrolling. The college President does a great job addressing issues on campus.

Students at Ramapo have few complaints about the lack of safety around campus. Campus Security keeps a close watch over just about everything that goes on around campus, from the partying to the parking. All of the areas on campus where it is necessary to travel are well-lit, with only the fringe areas and shortcuts existing for the brave. One area in particular, the trail between the College Park Apartments and Bischoff and Mackin Halls, can be intimidating, as the path leads directly down into the woods; however, this path is more deceiving than dangerous. Campus police regularly send out e-mails to the student body warning of any dangers, such as bears being spotted nearby or of fire alarms being activated.

In fact, many students have complaints about Campus Security being suffocating, and indeed they are quite quick to deal out fines and punishment, regardless of the severity of the offense. Much of security’s duty seems to be patrolling for non-stickered cars and ticketing them. Over the course of a week, a car without a proper parking sticker could be ticketed three times, despite the parking fee having been paid. Security also tends to loiter around parties, no matter how well behaved students may actually be.
