Off-Campus Dining: There are some great places to eat and order from off campus. Go to Benny's. Don't question it. Just go.

3 College Freshman

Academics: I don't feel too challenged or anything. The professors are for the most part nice and understanding and easy to talk to. I did get a couple bad professors but it's pre-requisites. Hopefully this will get better as I enter my major classes.

Technology: Radford's wireless is bad. It's pretty slow, you have to re-log on every time you use it. I can't keep the wireless on any of my portable devices because it always drops it the second you exit a building even the "the whole campus" is supposed to have wireless. They also make it sounds like we have computer labs galore but a lot of time professors have classes in there so you can't go in and do what you have to do. I suggest bringing your own laptop and printer to avoid the hassle.

Campus Food: Okay so the food joints are as followed: Dalton Dining Hall, Papa Johns, Au Bon Pain, Wendy's, Chick-Fil-A, Wildgreens, Austin's Grill, Pinkberry, and Starbucks. During the week, these places have fairly decent time schedules. However on the weekend everything is closing and has weird hours. Just do yourself a favor and do RU Express because then you can eat off campus or order in when you need to.

3 College Freshman

Weather: The weather is bi-polar. It was snowing one day and the next day it was like 70 degrees. Not at all what I expecting what with Radford being a school in the mountains and all. Definitely pack for both warm and freezing weather.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Everyone is very social at Radford. It's very easy to get involved. There are lots of travel abroad opportunities and every student is hooked up with an advisor from their department to help secure internships and sign up for classes. I didn't need to utilize the tutoring center or anything my first semester ('m entering my second semester in January) so I can't really review that. I do know that the Students with Disabilities office is committed to making sure every student gets a fair chance to learn. They do ADHD testing and such there. It seems like a great resource. They also have note takers in every class so students with disabilities can pick up notes to help them study.

Campus Quality: The biggest hang out on campus is "The Bonnie". Inside students find pool tables, ping pong, darts, and even a bowling alley.

The athletic centers/ gyms we have now are okay but a little small. However the school is in the process of building a beautiful, massive athletic center for students that is supposed to be finished Fall 2014.

We have club fairs and we had the Highlander Festival. Quad Fest is coming up soon, apparently that's a lot of fun. There's not a lot around the Radford area but the students are fun and we make it work.

Health & Safety: This campus feels very safe. They have the blue light poles everywhere so you can call for help. Police officers are everywhere but they don't harass you.

The health clinic is okay. I had to go there once, I didn't have to wait for as long as I thought I would considering I was a walk in. They sent my prescription over to CVS pharmacy (a bit of a walk from campus so try to catch a bus or someone with a car). The biggest thing is they don't issue sick notes for some reason so always keep your health forms and prescription receipts if you miss class.

Transportation: I got lucky and made friends with cars. I suggest all freshmen either bring a car or get to know someone who did. Christiansburg and Blacksburg and Roanoke are all awesome places and a short drive from school but the bus schedule is crazy.

Party Scene: So Radford is supposed to be "the party school"....yeah...I can't tell you how many Friday or Saturday nights my friends and I have wasted looking for a party. The same frats throw down every weekend. There aren't any cover charges so that's good but ratio can be a problem. Typically it's three girls to every one guy. Luckily my group of friends has connections with frat brothers so we don't have to worry about it too much. The frat scene gets tiresome though. You go down into a gross basement, drink disgusting beer, and then grind to super loud music and get beer thrown all over you by sloppy drunk girls. It's fun occasionally, but every weekend? Not so much.

Guys & Girls: As a girl, I find the guys at Radford to be super attractive. I got extremely lucky and met my current boyfriend on the freshmen Facebook page (definitely join this if you decide to attend, the connections you make are invaluable and it's great for finding a roommate). He and I realized we were in the same dorm and ended up being friends and started a relationship after like two weeks of school. Everyone says the boy to girl ratio is way off but there are a ton of attractive guys around campus. Sure a lot of them are just looking for hookups but most of my best guy friends I've made are searching for love.

As far friendships are concerned, most of the students here are great. Most of my friends are guys because a lot of the girls are the ditzy and slightly whorish. That sounds horrible to say but I've had a lot of problems with girls in and out of my dorm. It seems a lot of them have a thirst for drama. I just found a few close friends and try to stay away from the crazy girls.

Radford really is full of great people, you just have to find out who is fake and who isn't and then you'll be fine.

Drug Safety: Police officers and RAs are pretty accepting of alcohol, they mostly want you just to get back to the dorm safe and sound. We don't have any larger of a party scene than any other school despite Radford's reputation. The rules about weed are stricter than those concerning alcohol. If you have a gram or more on you, you will be charged with intent to sell and expelled from school. Choose your friends wisely and don't ever cause a drunken scene in front of a cop or an RA because then they will be forced to write you up rather than letting you go home with a warning.

Campus Housing: The dorms are so close to the class buildings. The dorms are really spacious and definitely enough for two or three people to live comfortably. There is something to do every night and every weekend. The school plans its activities very well and always keeps the students entertained and busy.

4 College Freshman

Weather: The campus is small enough where weather is not a big factor in class attendance, walking, etc.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I can't see myself at any other school. It wasn't my first choice, but after being there for a semester, I wouldn't choose any other school. This is the one for me.

4 College Freshman

Parking: There is a parking lot next to nearly every building. Although the lots for the students that live on campus are so far away, the weekend rules are very convenient.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Fan support and school spirit is okay. It is not a big school for people to go crazy. We do not have a football team.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: off-campus dining is slim. Nothing amazing, very little selection. Also not many healthy choices.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Housing is fairly close to campus, walk-able but buses run if you need them. They are safe and if you find the right places are affordable.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Rains a lot and it can be very chilly in the winter. Make sure you have an umbrella.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: New buildings are super clean. The older dorms could use some help though. Very excited for the new fitness building to be completed.

4 College Freshman

Technology: Tech people at Radford are great and are always willing to help. The wireless access is sometimes a pain though.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Buses run all the time and they are great for going to the next town over or to the mall or wal-mart

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Events are going on all the time on campus. There is always something to do and the movies on campus are awesome!

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The buildings are fairly new and the campus is walk able.

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
