Campus Quality: The nursing program here is outstanding. It is one of the top three in the state. The majority of the teachers here have their PHD and are more than willing to help students in any way that they can.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at Radford University depends on who your friends are. You see more alcohol than drugs. But there isn't really much pressure and the people drinking are usually of age.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: Even though I am giving my personal experience with financial aid a C- does not mean it is that way for everyone, I have quite a few friends that financial aid paid for everything. For me, they said my parents earned too much and that they could only give me 7500 for the whole year so I, by myself, had to pay almost 3 grand each semester. The FAFSA goes off your parents finances from last year not from the now, even though my parents are having some major financial struggles now, last year they weren't and that is all FAFSA sees. So if FAFSA can't give you the money you need, try other routes like student or parent plus loans.

Guys & Girls: Even though Radford has people coming to it from all sorts of different places, the type of girl and guy you will see the most here is the good old southerner. There are some guys/girls that will dress like the country but for the most part they dress just like anybody else, and you can't usually tell until they talk and their accent comes out. The guys are pretty cute and the girls are too, and the ratio at Radford is there are more girls to guys. So if your a girl it sucks trying to find someone...if your a guy it's the opposite.

Campus Food: For the most part, all of the dining halls at Radford have good food. The only reason it needs to get a B is because of the pricing and the hours. The hours for the dining halls are horrible, the only one that is open all the time is the Bonnie, the other two close at weird times and then your stuck with eating whats at the Bonnie for 3 meals in a row. Also the pricing of all the food is super expensive, if you have a meal plan than it's usually okay. But if you live off campus and don't then you will almost never eat at the dining halls again because of how expensive they are.

Majors: I had more trouble with the bank I received my student loans through than the school. Overall, I feel they do well.

Diversity: The student body on campus has become more diverse over the year, but is still primarily white, christian students. There are many programs and classes that serve diverse populations so it's great in that regard.

Off-Campus Housing: While most apartments in Radford are affordable, they are noisy, poorly managed and not maintained well. The ones that are not as noise and are maintained and managed well are out of the price range most students are able to afford. Radford students are notorious for destroying apartments and for parties almost every night. I do not recommend.

Scholarships: I went in recently to speak to someone in financial aid about getting money to return to school to become licensed. The person I spoke with was very nice, but did not seem very knowledgeable about what I needed. Instead of finding me someone else to speak with who could help me find alternate forms of financial aid, she told me they could not approve financial aid in my situation and gave me information about personal loans, which are out of the question for me, and no information about anyone else to speak with or about scholarships. I was quite disappointed that I may not be able to return to school after speaking with her, but later found out there are scholarships to apply for.

Majors: It is a very challenging road getting into the nursing program. You dont get in until your junior year. I know that your science grades are very important, your GPA, and your entrace test scores. Overall though, if you work hard, it is very possible.

Local Area: Alot of shops to visit and shop in, a ton of local resturaunts that are very popular on the weekends, and alot of out door activities to be involved in in the community. Radford is such a cute town, and a fun and safe enviornment to live in. Christiansburg is also only fifteen minutes away which includes an AMAZING movie theatre, a mall, and every resturaunt you can think of! I love the area so much!

Diversity: The university is very diverse in everything it does. This years freshman class was not only the largest, but also the most diverse in history. The university is truly growing in every possible way, and everything offered there is centered around diversity. It really is amazing.

Campus Quality: The facilities are very well kept, and very safe for the students. They continue to work nonstop on improving all of the facilities there, and are growing with their facilities. The residential halls are very well kept, very clean and very updated. The dorm rooms are a very good size, and the bathrooms are very suitable for students. The study halls are my favorite places. it gives me a place to go when i dont want to be crammed up in my room studying. It's a very relaxed enviornment, and it really does help me focus. The eating facilities are wonderful. I love the fact that we have more than just a simple cafeteria to choose from. The many fast food joints make the campus that much more loveable. I cant wait to see what the future holds for Radford Univerisity and its Facilities as they grow more and more each year.

Academics: Radford offers a wide variety of majors that you might not be able to find at other public schools in Virginia

Health & Safety: I always feel safe on campus at Radford. It is a small college town with minimal danger.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments and houses are very easy to find, and can be very very cheap if you know where to look. Even the more expensive ones in Radford are extremely cheap compared to other places. My rent is 320 with all utilities included, my rent last year was 280 but had no utilities included. This is on the cheaper side, and a little bit further from campus but there are buses and its not that bad of a walk. I would say the average rent is 350.

Administration: The on campus rules are pretty strict compared to other schools. We have a dry campus and police that patrol the campus frequently. Also, many of the buildings are locked at night or on the weekends, which effects possible studying time. The library is closed at midnight, and earlier on weekends, which makes for very limited study areas.

Health & Safety: I never really feel unsafe on campus. The low rating is for the Student Health Center. The services they offer are great but getting an appointment takes forever and customer service is terrible. In the beginning of the year I needed to get some more vaccinations that the health center said they could provide..To this day I still haven't gotten a call back from the doctor to say the vaccinations have arrived and I can schedule my appointment. I've called several times and even went in person to see what was going on. It's spring semester now & I just got the vaccinations over my Christmas break

3 College Freshman

Transportation: the campus shuttle is free and it takes you to just about any of the major places where somewhere may need to go

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: lots of parties at frat houses, apartments. its almost impossible to not be able to find soemwhere to go

3 College Junior

Majors: I commute from CT to got to radford, VA twice a year.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: The cheapest greek life is about 400 hundred dollars per semester but they treat you like a family if you join.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: The parties are where you find them. if you're willing to walk around and knock on some doors, you'll have a great time

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I enjoy living on campus because you are close to you classes and you can study in the buildings and not have to drive to get back home. The dorms have quiet hours so you can also study in your room or the lounges that are on the floors.

Party Scene: Usually the party life starts on Thursday nights and continues until Saturday night. The bar/club scene is for students who are 21 or older. There are always places to go off campus whether it be fraternities or sororities, or just house parties. House parties tend to be safer because they are in a somewhat controlled environment and they are always more fun because you know who is there and it isn't difficult to make it back home.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
