2 College Freshman

Athletics: There are emails sent out for Basketball games or other games but I don't see school spirit here at all.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Buses run everyday, there are even late buses to Christiansburg, which is the closest downtown from Radford but having a car is so much better than having to work around the bus schedules.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: Compared to other schools, good options. But there's a lack of options during the weekends!

Campus Housing: The actual rooms aren't bad. I speak mostly speak for Muse rooms especially because they seem a lot more spacious than I thought they would be and the dorms in other buildings are nice and have air conditioning. Plus a lot of the residential buildings have been renovated or are scheduled to get renovated.

Campus Housing: The only thing I can say about housing is that we have some of the best housing due to recent renovation in most of our residence halls.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: The parties here are nice if you can find some girls because you need to have a "ratio" to get in.

3 College Junior

Administration: I cannot say much about this because even though they are strict in my eyes, they do inform you of everything that you can do and things that you are not supposed to do. As far as underage drinking, the RAs call the police if you are drinking, so I could see how some freshman could get upset when they come to college and then have an underage drinking charge looming over their head wherever they try to get a job just for doing what everyone is supposed to be experimenting with in college.

Off-Campus Housing: Simply put, as a off-campus residence goer, the places to stay are excellent. Pros are that they are relatively cheap compared to Virginia Tech and safety is of little concern. Cons include the parking that comes with these places are not very good (you are not granted a spot in some places) and the management companies, coughpricewilliamcough, are aware that they are always going to have business, because of the growing student population here, so in return they are nasty and treat us like we are just a number and not a customer.

Off-Campus Dining: I can count the amount of off-campus restaurants that haven't gone out of business within the last year with one hand. Even though when you find a good restaurant, you need access to a car if you don't want walk 35 minutes either way. In a positive manner, when you reach said restaurant, the food will not disappoint. Here at Radford I am quite embarrassed when I have out-of-town friends visit and I run out of eating options after two days. There are three main reasons for this - 1. Out of the five good restaurants, three of them are the same type of food - 2. When we, as young people, want to go eat at night, they're 20 minutes from closing their doors - 3. As stated previously, they are mainly too far away from residence halls to walk too in reason. In addition to this mess of things, the student discounts are absolutely none.

Scholarships: The financial aid process takes time, from my perspective. Friends that I have expressed frustration because of the obstacles they had to overcome just because their financial aid didn't kick in when it was supposed to.

Health & Safety: The safety on Radford University's campus is an 8 out of 10. The police are there mainly to break up parties (from a students point-of-view) but they are also very willing to help students and persons out as well. They play a very community based law enforcement act, making sure inebriated persons are safe rather than sorry. In addition, at night, they are more than present in the main areas where it would seem trouble is lurking, making the area more safe than it appears.

3 College Junior

Administration: Administration has students' best interest in mind but does things that are questionable such as sending a large volume of informational emails and sometimes sending students too much information about things that do not concern them or are none of their business (personal detail of campus tragedies).

3 College Junior

Athletics: The lack of a football team at Radford makes fall football season somewhat awkward, especially since the school is completely overshadowed by the Virginia Tech football team and program.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life at Radford is strong and a long-held Unversity tradition. Sororities and Fraternities make their presence known on campus but there are other clubs and organizations that students can be part of.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Radford is extremely diverse in its student population. People of all colors, sizes, shapes, religions, and styles attend the school. Anything goes. I have not personally seen people criticized because of their dress or appearance.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Within the graduate school, classes are small (22-25 people per class) and relationships with faculty are personal and close. The classes are interesting and have a wide variety. Professors are passionate and helpful to students both inside and outside of the classroom.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: The Office of Financial Aid & the Office of Student Accounts were both extremely helpful when I had issues and concerns about my Financial Aid. I simply called the offices and was greeted with friendly, helpful office staff that immediately helped me solve the issues.

Health & Safety: The parking for commuters is located across the street and across a long bridge from campus. While Radford has done its best to light the areas, the location can be uncomfortable when walking to the car after night classes.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: Many parties to choose from almost any day of the week, you have to be careful though because some parties can take place in questionable areas and there is a strong drug culture at Radford.

4 College Junior

Local Area: While Radford itself does not have many attractions, it is located within great driving distance to attractions and activities such as Blacksburg and Virginia Tech football games, Christiansburg for eating, shopping, etc., Floyd County for nightlife, eating, shopping, etc., Chateau Morrissette winery, and many outdoor attractions such as hiking the Cascades or tubing the New River.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: The parties are pretty good except when the frats require ratio or don't let certain people in

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Barely any off campus dining

Majors: They have a great biology program for my major

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Some off campus housing is nice. But not all of them

Local Area: Local atmosphere isn't bad, there just no nightlife, no clubs or anything else

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
