Diversity: Unconscious White Privillages – PSU is well know for diversity and it is true most of campus. However, my degree, studio art/fine art are white dominants degree and field. In the Program, I am the only one colored and non-American student in my year of study. When I complained people's less tendency and understanding of my ethnicity and racial characteristic, some people says that " But you choose to come her in America, right?" I choose to study in America, but it does not mean that I love white perspective. I thought PSU has more cultural interaction, people have curiosity for different countries and life. But graduate students are not from PSU, from different states. So, they are not understandable for the people from different national origin.

Off-Campus Housing: Being a student and living in Portland is not possible. Rents are too high and there isn't enough housing period. Out in the suburbs it's easier, but you are going to be commuting.

3 College Senior

Administration: There Are Enforcement? While there is campus security, there is rarely any kind of cohesive standard.

Campus Food: OK and Thoughtful – There is a student run coffee shop downstairs, but not many people know that. They serve vegan food and coffee. I hope they open during break. PSU locate in downtown, so I don't use cafeteria so often, but most of vendors are very nice and helpful. They also consider our health too, providing healthy choice as well.

Weather: Hey, it's Portland. It's known for 9+ months of rain. Outside the window, as I type this, it is cool, wet, occasional showers... Oh, yeah. It's also the middle of July.
If you don't like the rain, I hear Arizona State is accepting.

Guys & Girls: Straight Single Girls Look Elsewhere – Portland is famous for its gay-friendly attitude. Many of my friends are part of the LGBTQ community. Maybe it's just my group of friends, but all the boys I've ever crushed on have turned out to be gay or act completely asexual. I will say there are some pretty nice young men on campus though so maybe others have had better luck.

For boys, you will meet many types of girls on PSU's campus. From the typical cheerleader type to the quirky girl who reads zines, you will never run out of new personalities to get to know.

Drug Safety: Drugs Are Around but Not a Problem – There are some drug problems that mainly concern bums on campus that should not be there, however the campus police is pretty good about getting them off campus. A lot of people smoke as well and many drink as well, but if you politely decline a cigarette or a drink they won't make a big deal out of it.

Parking: The local transportation company, TriMet has multiple forms of transportation services available to students. We have the Portland Streetcar, MAX rail trains, and multiple bus lines that connect to campus. PSU also offers discount term passes for TriMet's service. Most people I know on campus do not drive cars. They say that parking costs are terrible and bound to go up each year due to TriMet service cuts and it's hard to find parking spots around campus.

Transportation: Transportation to Psu is great. The max runs early and late in the evening. The green line from and to the lod center is free and all the busses in Portland run in and out of the downtown center. PSU also provides discounted fare for the tri-met. I find it very useful.

Guys & Girls: Gals and Guys – The girls and guys here at Portland state are all different and unique. You won't find the preppy ones here, thats for sure.

Diversity: Many Backgrounds – I have never seen a place, city, let alone a college with an insane amount of diversity as here.

Campus Housing: There are about 11 different dormitory buildings to choose from and each one is unique, you just have to find the one that you like best.

Transportation: So transportation is easy and pretty awesome on campus because it's located in downtown Portland and there are max lines and bus lines constanstly going through.

Scholarships: So my first year went completely smooth to get my financial aid in order, however, this second year has been a real pain and hassle. I recommend getting everything done early!

Guys & Girls: The girls and guys at Portland State University are equally attractive. The style is very fashion forward and many people ride fixies which is a popular bicycle. Music is a very important part of the popular culture on campus. As far as relationships, I met my boyfriend freshman year and we are still together going into junior year. Lots of my friends also met new students and are now dating. Great people, great place, great school.

Campus Housing: Loved the Broadway Dorms – I lived in the Broadway dorms my freshman year at PSU and loved it. The rooms are very nice and yet still have a homey feel. My RA's were helpful and accessible at all times. All in all a great way to spend my first year at Portland State.

Scholarships: I have yet to recieve any financial aid with Portland State, but that is due to the fact that I wish to only receive scholarships and am not eligable for financial aid. The scholarship for out-of-state students required a 3.0 gpa and when I was an incoming freshman I only had a 2.9. Therefore, scholarships and financial aid are readily avaible at Portland State University as long as the student makes an effort as well. I now have a 3.1 and am on my journey to scholarships opportunities (or so I hope).

Health & Safety: Safe as Can Be – Excellent campus security. I am a young female and I can confidentaly say that I feel completely comfortable walking around campus after dark. Our campus security is very reliable and punctual.

Drug Safety: Drinking Is Popular for Weekend Activities – The drug and alcohol scene at Portland State University is not that big of an issue. There is drinking, but with moderation. Also the drinking is mostly on weekends and in my opinion handled responsibly. I haven't come across much drug use. All in all I would conclude that Portland State has an above average safety with its drug and alcohol consumption.

Campus Quality: Beautiful Buildings and Scenery – Given certain problems (winter time tends to make for rust), it is a very beautiful campus full of great photographic view points no matter where you are. From the library full of all kinds of books to the restaurant life full of all kinds of food variety, you'll find your place happily and well no matter where you find yourself here.

5 College Junior

Local Area: Always Full of Life and Variety – You're bound to be inspired no matter where you go. There is a wide diversity of people everywhere, along with a wide variety of night life and restaurants. It's easy to meet new people, and it's a joy to do so in such a beautiful city.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Full of Variety, Support, and Excellent Professors – The field is about a 20-25 minute walking distance, depending on where you're coming from. Biking is a common activity, so I would suggest you invest in one.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Down Town Wheels – there are dozens of bus lines running all over down town, you can get just about anywhere in the city. there are also two max lines and a couple of street cars. all of these run through or near the campus.

2 College Sophomore

Weather: the weather does not affect campus life too much it just affects how pleasant or unpleasant getting to class can be.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Food Carts Nearby – There are amazing food carts nearby, which is a big thing in Portland, with varieties of ethnic cuisines and relatively cheap meals. Food in school dining hall however, is awful. Very few options, and some of the "restaurants" are never even open. Sbarros, Subway, Einstein Bagels, Starbucks. Very disappointing.
