Administration: The university security does their job well. There have been assualts (mostly theft) and when this occurs they do a great job of informing students, so we can be safe, and searching for the perpetrator.

Academics: I'm a English Major/Writing Minor. With the right help it's great!

3 College Senior

Academics: Classes are not that challenging, but some of them are interesting.

Campus Housing: Expensive. The less expensive dorms are old and small. There are cheaper, better quality housing options near capus for students.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: The diversity on campus is very noticeable and students seem accepting of each others differences. PSU has a lot of student organizations the encourage and support diversity anywhere from race, religion, and even disabilities.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: My only complaint is that parking permits are too expensive.

5 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Financial aid went smoothly. If I have a question or an issue the staff helps me understand the process as to why and how thing happen. They even give me advice on how to qualify for more aid.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I feel very safe on campus. I thinks it's great that I get an e-mail alerts when something bad happens such as break ins or assaults in or around campus.

Weather: It's Portland, Oregon. It rains... a lot. If that's not your thing, you probably won't like it. Luckily, the main buildings have indoor sky-bridges between them, and there are a lot of covered areas and trees so you don't get too wet from the rain. When the weather is nice (and even when it isn't, in my opinion) the campus park blocks are beautiful, though.

Guys & Girls: People tend to be pretty respectful toward each other and are usually worth an interesting conversation. There's a group for every conceivable niche, no matter how weird (this is Portland, after all). Also, there are plenty of attractive young people of all types!

Off-Campus Housing: Portland State doesn't have much to offer when it comes to off-campus housing. If you are a student and wish to live off-campus, the commute will be half of the struggle. The campus is located in downtown, where apartments run pretty high in terms of cost. Most of the people that actually live in the area are older and more secure financially. However, Portland has an excellent transit system and many cyclists so the commute is all part of living in this city.

Campus Quality: PSU offers unique courses for Freshman and Sophomores to ultimately mold them into well rounded adults. As a Freshman you are required to take a Freshman Inquiry course, and you have a choice between many different interesting topics. You will take this course throughout your first academic year, and it will satisfy the majority of per-requisites most freshman are required to complete in their first year of college. It's a great alternative to the usual college intro writing classes that you might take at other universities. Instead, you get a chance to discuss subjects that relate to the world around you and the world you will be working in after graduation.

Campus Quality: Portland State University's campus is absolutely beautiful. It's smack dab in the middle of the city, and running through the middle are beautiful, green park blocks with trees and benches. Some of the buildings have an older, brick look and have very interesting layouts, but that just adds character to the campus. The library is a beautiful building with a front facing the park blocks, made out of windows so you always have a good view and arcs in almost a horse shoe shape around a beautiful old tree that was saved during its construction. The Smith Memorial Student Union building also has a great basement, full of places to sit with a cup of coffee and even has a bowling alley! There is a very strong presence from the students and you can feel it just about anywhere you go on campus.

Diversity: PSU is a very ehtnically diverse school. We have many Arab, Iranian, Chinese, Korean, and White students predominantly. People are very accepting probably because Portland is such a progressive city. no one seem to mind what anyone else is doing. The Arab students tend to hang out only with other Arabs though, while other students mix appropriately

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I have always felt safe on campus. when an event happens I always receive an email to let me know of a dangerous person and crime that may be recurring. Although, I never really SEE campus safety, I assume they must be out doing a really good job!

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: It's Portland, drugs are pretty common. Lots of people smoke and drink, but campus isn't really a party spot.

3 College Senior

Parking: The permits are pretty expensive, and on street parking can be tricky, but it is doable. Public transportation is really the way to go.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: The diversity on campus is very made up off all races.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The dining services in and around Portland State offer a wide variety of food. From vegan to vegetarian to your favorite meat and sushi. There's a choice for everybody and all will be satisfied!

Transportation: The bus system in Portland, OR is the best in the country. Since PSU is located downtown, all the buses in the city travel past the school. This makes it very easy to travel anywhere in Portland with just around 15 minutes of waiting. The school offers a discount on the price of bus fare for each three month term. You purchase a sticker that goes on your student ID and then just show it to the driver for the duration of the term, in order to get on any bus within the Portland area.

4 College Freshman

Academics: This is a very good school, I learn something new everyday and I am proud to be here.

Off-Campus Housing: Portland is the center of everywhere, so there are many different places that you can live.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: One thing that I enjoy about this school is the diverse backgrounds. It makes classes that much more interesting.

Health & Safety: I've never felt unsafe on campus. There are generally quite a lot of people around and things are well lit. There are also a number of emergency call boxes around campus. I know there are security guards that I sometimes see as well. Also, there is an alert system in place that sends a message to your phone and email if there is any situation going on. However, I know there have been several incidents of assault on campus this school year.

4 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Dining: There are a number of delicious food carts nearby and quite a number and variety of cheaper restaurants nearby that are good for students. Also, it's quick enough to walk or take the Max into downtown where there are plenty more places.
