3 College Sophomore

Parking: You gotta search for spots

2 College Sophomore

Parking: You are only permitted to have a car your junior and senior years unless you get a special permit for your job which is inconvenient.

3 College Freshman

Parking: Due to limited parking spaces, students cannot have a car on campus until Junior year. A permit must be purchased, but it's not too expensive.

4 College Junior

Parking: There is one large parking structure and one small parking structure for Pitzer College. There is also a lot of street parking, which is not to far from the college. All cars parked on the Pitzer parking lot need to have a Pitzer parking permit. Cars can and will get ticketed if they are parked without a permit, but the ticket can be revoked if the student has a valid excuse. parking permits are given to all student except for freshmen, unless freshmen have a valid excuse for needing their car on campus. Having a car on campus is convenient but not necessary. There is $4 cab that can take students to the mall or the grocery stores.

2 College Senior

Parking: Even with a parking permit, parking on any of the five campuses can be a drag. You can't even get a parking permit until your sophomore year (there are few instances where freshmen with cars can get one). Sometimes, parking is so exclusive on the campuses that certain cars with certain permits are not allowed to park there. I personally have gotten 3 parking citations this semester alone just for being in a parking space past the designated time.

Student Author OverviewWhat's this?

View student contributors

Parking at Pitzer is a relatively simple issue. Permits are not difficult to come by, and students don't seem to mind the price. There are two parking lots on Pitzer's campus, and they are almost never filled to capacity, so finding a spot is not a problem (except during big events such as Family Weekend). The privilege of bringing cars to campus is limited to juniors and seniors while some campus construction continues, but more parking lots will be built in order to accommodate more cars in the future.

Parking permits cost $35 for students who live on campus and $20 for students who live off campus. Ticketing is not a big problem at Pitzer, but students should make sure to stay away from reserved parking spots and handicapped parking spots. Also, Pitzer students can only register their cars for parking on Pitzer's campus; parking at  one of the other five Claremont Colleges is not allowed. Other than that, students are happy with the parking at Pitzer, and no one makes a big fuss about it.

Only juniors and seniors are allowed to get parking permits, but freshmen and sophomores may get them if they have a legitimate reason that is approved by the College.
