3 College Freshman

Administration: Pitzer gives us the freedom to make our own decisions, for better or for worse. They expect us to take care of ourselves, and we do.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Tons of people do illegal substances on a daily basis, and never get caught. In fact POA (Pitzer Outdoors Adventures) plans trips through the school, and they almost always have drugs/alcohol unless they are clarified to be a "dry" trip. There is a red cup policy, so RA's and CampSec are pretty lenient with alcohol; you just can't walk around with an obvious beer bottle or handle.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: Pitzer is all about students working with administration to create a unique campus and learning environment, so students are allowed to participate in big decisions. The administration is very lenient on most social rules including drinking and drug usage because they understand that if you are smart enough to be admitted you are smart enough to make good decisions. The administration's main concern is that student's are safe.

The campus strictness at Pitzer College is very lenient, much to the students' liking. There are rules, but if they are broken, students don't get into much trouble. The ResLife (Residence Life) staff is typically very understanding, allowing students to get away with a lot of rule-breaking. But, at Pitzer, these rules generally revolve around underage drinking and carrying open containers of alcohol. As is true on any college campus, many Pitzer students who drink are underage. As long as the students keep the noise to a minimum and do not leave their rooms with alcohol, there really is no problem surrounding this issue. Campus security (Camp Sec) is available to students during their time of need, but officers do not interfere with parties. The staff is friendly, and as long as you don't provoke them, you should be able to get away with most things. Pitzer students, though, don't do much to instigate trouble and therefore do not abuse the leniency of Pitzer staff.

Pitzer faculty members each have their own respective policies when it comes to attendance in class. Usually, students are allowed up to three absences per semester, but this also depends on the professor. Some are very flexible, while others strictly abide by their own rules—the strictest being that your overall grade will drop with each missed class after your allowed absences have been used. Overall, other than a few exceptions, Pitzer has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the staff and administration are generally very lenient. Pitzer students don't come to the College to make trouble; rather, they know what their limits are and do not do anything that normal college students wouldn't do.

Facts & Statistics

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...
  • Being loud
  • Illegally downloading music and movies
  • Parking illegally
  • Smoking weed
  • Underage drinking/carrying an open container of alcohol
Visitation Policies
Friends are allowed to spend the night if you contact your resident assistant and fill out a form acknowledging the guest's presence on campus. Both you and your guest must sign the form, stating that you are responsible for anything having to do with your guest. However, this is a very lenient rule, as most students do not go through this process and the RA is none the wiser.
