Campus Housing

Campus Housing: I don't live on campus, but the school building itself is very small and cramped, especially for an art school where students need room, but it's inevitable since the building is located in a city.

Campus Housing: I am a graduating senior of this school and in the short amount of time that I've been here, I've seen it go through a lot of changes. The most valuable thing about this school is its faculty and class sizes. I would say that those two factors outweigh just about everything else you could possibly consider, because the sky is the limit if you have great guidance and a lot of one-on-one attention. The faculty will go out of their way to make sure every opportunity is available to you, they are extremely knowledgeable, and they will work with other faculty/department chairs to get you what you need. The problem is that the administration underappreciates the hell out of them, doesn't pay them enough, and tries to make them do things that aren't their jobs. Despite all of this, they do an amazing job of shielding students from their own oppression, but ultimately in the last three years the school has lost FOUR amazing faculty in just my department alone.

The president and Dean of Students put on this front like they are all about the students, but when students bring issues to their attention, nothing gets done. The building hours right now are insane. No other art school has our hours. For two years they talked about this "exciting sculpture" for the green space the school owns across the street, just to reveal a big orange and blue sign made of steel that looks awful, doesn't make sense, and that all of the students and faculty hate. They spent a couple million on that instead of using that money for something useful for the students. They are just totally oblivious to what healthy collaboration means. The school is rapidly turning into a trade school instead of a fine art school the way it was founded. They just revealed a new digital media major, which has infinite possibilities in the fine art world, but their entire gallery show to introduce the major was all commercial (app design, game design, digital illustration, cartoon animation) etc. New administration!
