3 College Sophomore

Majors: I need to make sure that I take the proper classes in order to enter the major I want. I've seen people slowed down because they didn't know they needed a certain class.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: I don't eat on campus

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There are quite a few good looking girls

3 College Sophomore

Weather: The walks to class can be cold.

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: May as well just have your own car.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: It's a lot better than Robert Morris as far as instructors

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: I guess its ok but I dont eat on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Technology: the computers are ok but sometimes students forget to either sign out or they shut them down and at times one cannot restart them.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Never lived off campus but my friends who have absolutely love it.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Most people fit a general "mold..." which isn't so bad unless you are really out there. There's definitely subcultures at PSU. Most girls all dress the same.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Depending on which dorms you live in you could have excellent or poor accomodations. East halls is the worst but that's where all the freshmen live.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: State College has almost any type of food you could want... and McDonald's is open 24/7!

4 College Freshman

Technology: i typically use the computer labs to do my studying but most students use their laptops. There's a ton of places with wifi and you'll never go to any public place without seeing students on their laptops.

2 College Freshman

Parking: There are very few places to par that are reasonable. The ones close to campus are outrageously expensive.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: There's over 1000 clubs to join so there's a little bit of something for everybody.

5 College Freshman

Campus Food: Dining experience depends on where you live on campus. South Halls has the best food by far and East Halls has the worst food by far...but all students are allowed to go to any dining hall so long as they don't mind the distance.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: We love our football team no matter what...but there are still tons of other sports that students watch regularly such as volleyball and gymnastics

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: Not quite 21 yet so i haven't really experienced the bar scene...but all other parties are fantastic

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Cops don't bother you even if you're visibly intoxicated unless you're causing a disturbance.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Personally i got off on the wrong foot...but it's definitely a great school for most people.

2 College Freshman

Weather: Very cold and rainy and snowy

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There is much access to whatever you might want... but you're not labeled "weird" if you choose not to participate.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: People are very friendly here. If there's a group of people playing frisbee outside, they will almost always ask if you want to join

3 College Freshman

Diversity: PSU is very diverse. There are students from every culture here.

Despite common reservations about the location and climate, most Penn State students are fiercely loyal to their alma mater. Penn State boasts one of the largest alumni populations in the United States; graduates are proud of their degrees, and employers recognize the University’s name immediately. Although the campus is located in a very rural area, school is technologically up-to-date and on the cutting-edge of current research.

Aside from academics, PSU is also known for its social scene, especially in relation to sports and parties. Nittany Lion football—home of the 2008 Big Ten Champions—is a national draw and a point of pride for both the University and the town of State College. For anyone interested in playing or watching varsity sports, PSU is a top choice. Penn State has also been ranked highly by many polls and “party school” surveys as one of the top party schools in the nation. While it certainly isn’t the wildest town, these rankings are definitely accurate. The small-town setting and large-school atmosphere makes for little else in the way of entertainment, so it can be hard to avoid encountering the party scene during your time as a student. Still, the mix of work and leisure seems to work well for most of the student body, and academic standards at Penn State remain relatively high. It’s easy to spend four years at Penn State as an ever-serious student, focused completely on whatever you choose to study. With so many opportunities to relax nearby, balance and moderation are some of the best skills to learn from your four years in college.
