4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There is hardly any crime on campus, but some theft does occur. There is a health center on campus which is convenient, but you usually have to wait a long time to see a doctor.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The academics are excellent. There is a variety of classes and the teachers are very helpful. The only bad thing is the class sizes are quite large and it may be tough to find a decent seat in a lecture.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I'm engineering and it is a lot of work. Not much of a social life, but the program is excellent and there are many options such as internships and career fairs.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The Penn State football games are by far the best.

5 College Junior

Majors: If you are passionate in what you major in, then definitely it is easy to get into your major. Besides that, you need to work your ass off in some classes and get the grades to go into your major.

5 College Junior

Campus Housing: East sucks, but that's where you meet most of your friends and get to socialize. When the white loop bus stops at east halls, OMG, the amount of freshman going to parties are ridiculous.

5 College Junior

Technology: State of the art technology, sometimes really hard to get to computers during busy hours of the library like between 1pm to 3 pm. Anytime in the morning or evening, it is easily accessible to get to computers. There are many hidden computer labs all around the library, I found one behind the stairs and called it Chamber of Secrets because there really is a Harry Potter room upstairs.

5 College Junior

Academics: I really love all of my classes. Professors are always trying to help you and you will get this help if you only go to their office hours or email them about your concerns. They will not go out of their way to help, it depends on whether you make the effort. Classes are flexible and easy if you go to it and do the assigned work. Please do the assigned work, it really improves your grade.

5 College Junior

Academics: I'm in the College of Health and Human Development. I feel satisfied with my program and its requirements. Professors teaching my major classes are very engaging and helpful. It is true that there are many students in some of the classes but that doesn't stop the professors from getting to know you personally and trying to advise you on your plans for the future.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: Alcohol is quite apparent, especially when walking down town on weekend nights. Other drugs are not so apparents and are no worse than they were in high school in most cases.

3 College Senior

Weather: The summers can get really hot, really sucks without air conditioning. The winters are speradic with vast snow amounts some years and almost none others.

3 College Senior

Administration: The campus police are not overly sensitive about being drunk on campus even though it is a dry campus. The police presence is seen but they do not try to intimidate students.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: There are a multitude of dining halls to choose from. Granted some, in my opinion, are better than others. Pollock and West are the best ones with East being the worst by far.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Athletics are great at Penn State. This semester all but one fall sport coach received Big Ten Coach of the Year. Football is obviously the biggest sport on-campus, however, many people also follow wrestling, fencing, and volleyball which have all won national championships.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Busses at times are so packed that they do not even pick people up at some stops. This can be frustrating when you need to get to class or when you want to go home after a night exam and the bus is full with drunk freshman from east halls. Walking isn't always too bad and otherwise the bus system is fine.

Local Area: Penn State Shenango is located in the beautiful dowtown Sharon in Western Pennsylvania. In walking distance there are delicous family resturants like the original Quaker Steak and Lube, Niko's Coney Island Hot Dog Shop and the family owned Pizza Joe's. There are tons of shopping stores including the largest shoe store in the world, Reyeres Shoes, and the largest off-priced fashion store, the famous Winner. Downtown Sharon also has one of the best medical advanced facilities, Sharon Regional Hospital which has the valleys best cardiac unit.
Penn State Shenango is the place to be.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: I have never used public transportation but I know some students use them. They have a very steady schedule and they will meet your needs.

4 College Freshman

Weather: I grew up in the area, so I may be a little bias. The weather is great. Fall shows the beautiful colors and a crisp cool night, great for hayrides. The winter is cold with lots of snow, perfect for the holidays and the spring and summer are hot with lots of rain, just the right temperature for a fresh garden.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: Penn State is a great school with a great athletic department, but on the small Shenango branch campus I'm on does not have a team for any sport that has student involvment.
Penn State does give all students access to Penn State footbal games at Park Place, with bus ttransportation and discount tickets for family and friends.
Fan support is huge for the Penn State football team.
We are, Penn State!

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There are barely any situations reported and when there are, the problem is usually resolved.

2 College Sophomore

Weather: When it gets cold it gets really cold and when it gets hot it gets really hot. There are too many extremes with little balance in between

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: People opening get intoxicated and act out. People also openly smoke pot.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: You don't get any student discounts but pretty much where ever you go there is always something good. You never have to worry about not getting food you wont like because it's seriously all good! The corner room is great and so is ottos!

5 College Freshman

Weather: It all depends on the person and the day. Of course no one likes to walk in the rain/snow but usually it isn't for long.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live in North Halls which are absolutely amazing! They are so nice. Unfortunately though these are the only dorms where the bathroom is only shared by four people where as East, South, and West the bathrooms are shared by a whole floor.

Despite common reservations about the location and climate, most Penn State students are fiercely loyal to their alma mater. Penn State boasts one of the largest alumni populations in the United States; graduates are proud of their degrees, and employers recognize the University’s name immediately. Although the campus is located in a very rural area, school is technologically up-to-date and on the cutting-edge of current research.

Aside from academics, PSU is also known for its social scene, especially in relation to sports and parties. Nittany Lion football—home of the 2008 Big Ten Champions—is a national draw and a point of pride for both the University and the town of State College. For anyone interested in playing or watching varsity sports, PSU is a top choice. Penn State has also been ranked highly by many polls and “party school” surveys as one of the top party schools in the nation. While it certainly isn’t the wildest town, these rankings are definitely accurate. The small-town setting and large-school atmosphere makes for little else in the way of entertainment, so it can be hard to avoid encountering the party scene during your time as a student. Still, the mix of work and leisure seems to work well for most of the student body, and academic standards at Penn State remain relatively high. It’s easy to spend four years at Penn State as an ever-serious student, focused completely on whatever you choose to study. With so many opportunities to relax nearby, balance and moderation are some of the best skills to learn from your four years in college.
