3 College Freshman

Administration: I really haven't had any interactions with them to really know.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Behrend is a dry campus, and the policies are very strict in that regard, but people usually don't get caught unless they're super loud or being really obnoxious. The RAs are really cool and are easy to get along with. Most of the other policies, like attendance are pretty lax and that makes 8 AMs really nice (to not go to).

3 College Freshman

Administration: Some Resident assistants are really strict whereas some others are not.

4 College Freshman

Administration: some rotten apples but overall good people

3 College Junior

Administration: Behrend's main problem is the fact that its a dry campus, so even if you are 21, being intoxicated or having alcohol visible in your dorm can get you in trouble. While it does only include a fine and repeat offenses require an education class, it still is a ridiculous rule and one that gets people in trouble. That said, most RAs are understanding and are more concerned with your well being and that you're safe rather than getting you in trouble.

Some students say campus is not strict at all and the campus police don’t go looking to get people in trouble, while others seem to think that the campus police are pretty strict. When it comes to drinking, campus police will enforce the rules if you are being stupid, but students drinking in their rooms usually have to deal with RAs rather than police. Some RAs are great and will not say a word if they catch you or even avoid trying to catch you, and others are very strict. The RAs in the freshman dorms are more likely to refer students than in the upperclassman dorms, mostly because all freshman dorms are dry, while all others are not. When student gets referred, their RA writes up the situation, and if it involves drinking or drugs, the student usually has to have a meeting with a residence life coordinator. The first offense and often the second are just slaps on the wrist, but a student who has multiple offenses in a semester may be put on contract review for their housing. Drinking is often not punished badly at all, while drugs will receive harsher punishment. The police usually don't get involved unless there are fights, property destruction, or if a person puts him/herself in danger. A lot of students like to party at UGates, where there are no RAs. Parties there are much less likely to get broken up, and security guards usually just tell loud apartments to keep it down. Be aware, though, that if it gets too out of hand, the state cops are just down the road and they will issue underages.

New students who drink should do it in an area where they are more likely to be caught by an RA than a cop. But you’ll want to scope out the situation first. If the RA on duty seems like the type who would allow students to get away with something, then try to work something out with him or her if you get caught. If your RA seems strict, then it is probably best to head to the on-campus apartments or UGates.
