The guys and girls at Penn State Altoona are from all walks of life. The guys range from real-life farm boys to metropolitan city dwellers. Some guys take full advantage of the gym on campus, and then there are the guys who really focus on working out their brains—they are just waiting to have an intelligent conversation about any subject above reality television. The guys vary in looks but most are fairly well groomed and put together, and it seems like the most attractive men become attractive through their involvement in activities around campus. Just like in high school, the tendency to try and impress the ladies is still apparent in college guys, but the mindset is not as juvenile (for most, at least).

The girls at Penn State Altoona come from all over the country and globe. There are classy women, country girls, Southern belles, Indian beauties, and down-to-earth girls who are all intellectuals at their core. Many of the ladies here take good care of themselves, and although the Freshmen 15 or Sophomore 20 catches up with some, all are more than just looks. There are very few girls here looking to find a husband so they never have to work. Many people find relationships in college that last them their whole lives, but that is not the purpose of college. Do not become distracted by the guys and girls that surround you, which is very easy to do at Penn State Altoona. Focus is very necessary.

Facts & Statistics

Female Undergrads
Male Undergrads
Birth Control Available?
Contraception is offered at Sheetz Health and Wellness Center. However, the center does not take any insurance other than its own, so you will have to either get the Penn State Insurance Plan or pay full price for birth control.
Social Scene
The availability of places for students under 21 to go is very limited. Most people just mingle at parties thrown by friends off campus.
Hookups or Relationships?
The dating scene is very small at Penn State Altoona. The problem comes from the level of classwork and most students' lack of time-management skills. The random hookup scene is fairly big, especially when alcohol is involved. The use of birth control is much more mainstream, so most random hookups are, on average, safe.
Dress Code
Students dress very relaxed for class here. Only business majors and SGA members have to dress up for meetings. Even for class presentations (other than speech classes), the dress code is always two step above pajamas.
Did You Know?
All of the dormitories are coed, but the floors alternate genders.
