College Freshman

Greek Life: We do not have Greek life at my school.

Campus Housing: I would say that it is average to live on campus, but I think it would be cheaper to live in an apartment.

Campus Quality: This university is a Christian one. It's so great being around other Christians and having rules and regulations so things and people don't get out of hand.

5 College Freshman

Campus Food: There is a huge variety of food. You can basically get anything you want, anytime you want. It's great!

Drug Safety: Drugs and Alcohol Are Very Limited – ORU is very particular about drugs and alcohol on campus. They are almost nonexistent. ORU has a strong policy against both and neither are permitted on the grounds of the University.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: ORU is a Christian school so most people would classify themselves so. However, it is very ethnically diverse. More than 50 worldwide countries are represented on the campus. Thus, everyone is very accepting of different cultures and backgrounds.

Campus Quality: ORU has decent places for students to hang out. Our athletic center is nice. There is only one fast food place, but it is closed on Sunday, making it hard to find food on campus without leaving.

Overall Experience: I Couldn't Ask for a Better School! I just love being on campus surrounded by my friends, going to class, and sitting at the coffee shops while studying for a test. Every day, I'm excited to see what type of fun I will have during school. I love to meet new people and enjoy the outdoors while walking to each of my classes.

Party Scene: We Have to Use Your Creativity for Fun – I'm really not the type of person who likes to go to clubs, unless there is a salsa party downtown. I don't go to bars unless they're very chic bars, like Cosmos. My girlfriends and I love to go to Cosmos and spend all night talking. There are a lot of artistic coffee shops that have great music and a great environment to just relax from a stressful week. Every month our school does salsa parties to raise money for missions or local outreaches, and hundreds of people come to these events because they are so much fun.

Academics: Every Person on Campus Motivates You – As a Christian university, you can walk around and feel every teacher or staff wanting you to be successful and inspire you to be a better person. Every teacher has a unique personality, and they just want you to be open with them and tell them if you're struggling or have questions. Every time you walk into the registrar's office or admissions, you can sense the welcoming environment that they create with always getting my needs met and wanting to be involved with our lives. I've become best friends with the ladies who helped me get accepted at Oral Roberts University. I really don't complain about schoolwork because it's normal in every college. Campus life is so exciting, let's not even talk about all the exciting events that happen here. We have the Student Association creating movie nights, college weekend, salsa parties, and many other fun events where you always meet new people and become part of school activities.

Health & Safety: Safe Campus – ORU has a very safe campus. There aren't even very many cases of theft on campus. Security guards are nice and care about your well being.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Oral Roberts athletics are great.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: They're OK – The dorms are OK, but they should let students live off campus.

2 College Freshman

Weather: The weather's the same every day-windy.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The girls and guys are fine here.

Transportation: Most people live on campus and have a car. If they don't live on campus, they live at home with their parents or are married or over 25. There is no need for public transportation for the most part because most people can find a ride from a friend in the case that they are not in possession of a vehicle.

Administration: Teaches the whole person – Oral Roberts University is a university that teaches the whole person. This is grounded on the truths that God loves every single one of us and has shown his love through the Cross of Jesus Christ. In this way, we are taught in chapel about how to grow spiritually healthy in Christ who lives. Also, physical education courses are required every semester in order to learn how to grow our bodies in a healthy way. Thirdly, and most importantly we learn in classes. We are taught intellectually to the highest standards and do not compromise our minds for our spirits or our bodies. At the same time, I get to learn what I want in class and am not compromising spiritually or forsaking love, truth, justice, and humanity. All of these things come together and work correctly only through knowing Jesus our Lord. This university urges me to grow in every way and that is why I love being here!

Local Area: Tulsa has a lot going on – Tulsa is a small town gone big. It doesn't remind me of a big city, yet there is a lot going on and a lot of places to shop or eat. There's not much entertainment, but I don't really go around town very much personally anyway. I'd rather spend time with one or a few friends in a local coffee shop (or Starbucks even), and Tulsa does have a good atmosphere for that. I enjoy living here. Even though I don't go out much, I do think fondly of the fact that there are tons of venues for all kinds of music around town, such as the Performing Arts Center, Cain's Ballroom, and the BOK Center, to name the largest ones. There are also a lot of bars (I don't drink) to see performances and quite a few movie theaters and dollar theaters, which are the best for me as a college student.

Parking: Officer "Coffee" – One security officer will write you up for everything. BEWARE!

Party Scene: No Club Scene? This may be a shocker, but Oral Roberts University doesn't have a club scene. As a Christian university, ORU holds a higher standard for its students than any university in America. We know how to have fun with out sexing it up in our dorms, da club, or the club bathroom. Although, it still is a university full of hormonal young adults who lack self control. Most students get creative with their free time and find places to hang out off campus.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Go Beyond 71St or Riverside – In the ORU bubble, most students go to riverside or 71st to eat off campus. Why? It's close and convenient. But this limits you to mostly chain restaurants. Tulsa offers many great local and ethic places to eat. Brookside is a great place for restaurants that are unique to Tulsa. Some are a little pricier than the average college student wants to spend, but you pay for excellent fresh ingredients, and sometimes brunch/lunch specials.

Campus Quality: Great People, OK Academics – One of the best things about ORU is the people here. They are awesome and loving, they care and they want the best for you. The academics, at least for me as a freshman, are a bit mundane and repetitious. I'm hoping that they'll get tougher.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Not Visible but Present – Drugs/alcohol are fairly low on campus, as far as I know. However, alcohol consumption does happen, especially among people who play sports at our school (baseball players, etc). But, I don't know, really.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Pretty Good, Needs Major Renovating – Obviously, things have not been changed in decades. For whatever reason, it doesn't matter. Change is needed. The AC needs new equipment all across the board, we actually NEED a student center (which kind of counts as the GC... sort of). The infrastructure of the school is fairly good, and the architecture is beautiful. Again, however, the dorms are pretty old and deteriorating. They need major renovations.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: A Good Balance – Overall, this university has a very positive uplifting atmosphere. At times it can be a little annoying, but for the most part it's fairly nice.

Nearly everyone at ORU said that if they had to make their college decision all over again, they would still choose this university. Students give high marks to the strong Christian community here, and say that the professors and students are approachable, kind, and helpful. Another positive is the size of the school—it’s easy enough to get personal attention from the teachers, but the school is still large enough that you’ll regularly be able to meet lots of new, unique people.

Overall, Oral Roberts University is a great place for anyone who has a strong desire to become spiritually awake, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, professionally competent, and socially adept!
