Campus Food: Food is usually decent with a few good options. It is consistently a good meal, but there is little variety.

Campus Food: The dining halls have a good bit of variety and lots of vegetarian options. It can get old after a while, but the markets help break up the monotony.

Campus Food: dining halls are good and there is a good variety. a lot of other places located on campus that offer food options

Campus Food: The dining halls are on a schedule, which can be hard to follow at first, and they change it almost every year. One thing that doesn't change is wing night on Thursdays at Boyd, Wednesday at Shively, and Friday at Nelson. Thse nights are the best, but it does get busy really quick, so if you want a booth you should come before the 6 o'clock rush, usually people get out of class at 5:55 p.m.

You can find anything on court street from pizza to burritos. The food carts on the streets are good too, especially since they stay open realy late. The best late open spot in my opinion would be Union Street Diner, the food is super good and cheap. They give great plate sizes the burgers, sandwichs are worth the $6, they are huge.

Campus Food: There are four (almost four) dining halls on our campus. These dining halls provide a diverse amount of food. It averages from chines, to cookout/summer food, to seafood, basically anything that you want. Soup, salad, and veggies are always provided, which is good because that way there is always a healthy food choice. I enjoy my campus's dining hall food very much.

Taking in a meal at the dining halls, while not the best culinary experience, is certainly tolerable. A wide variety of food appears to be what makes the dining halls popular with students, and Shively is definitely a favorite among students thanks to its selection of hand-scooped ice cream. Boyd, though, is fast on the heels of Shively as the most popular dining hall because of its addition of paninis, wraps, salads, and sushi to its menu. Hopefully, other dining halls will follow suit and ditch some of the fried foods for healthier alternatives.

A downside to dining at OU is the lack of 24-hour places to eat. The dining halls usually close at 7 p.m. So, for students with late classes, it can be tough to get dinner. However, there are markets that are open pretty late, and Grab n' Go is very convenient for snatching a bagged lunch (too bad there's not one uptown at Bromley). Though students may complain about the dining halls at one point or another, there's no doubt that they'll be missing it once they move off campus and start living on Easy Mac. Overall, the dining halls provide good deals for students-they're convenient, the food is good, and changes are being made to accommodate vegetarians and those who want a healthier menu. If a tad too routine, as is the case with most University meal options, OU's dining halls at least find some creative ways to keep their options fresh for students.

Did You Know?
  • Think you're too busy to eat? Think again. Shively, Boyd, and Nelson Dining Halls all offer Grab n' Go, an à la carte lines that allows students to pack lunches instead of sitting down to eat. While the other two Grab n' Gos only offer regular menu items, the newly-revamped Boyd Grab 'n Go offers sushi (made by a local restaurant), paninis, wraps, and a large variety of salads.
  • Keep an eye out for dining hall theme nights, which have included Jimmy Buffett, Mardi Gras, Homecoming, and Hawaiian Luau themes in the past. Decked out in costumes, the employees serve theme-appropriate foods amid lavish decorations. It's cheesy, yes, but definitely fun, and the themed food is a nice break from the ordinary.
  • Over 800 students work for Dining Services and earn an average of $7.30 an hour, making it one of the highest paying jobs on campus.
  • Freshmen and sophomores are required to have a meal plan.
