Diversity: Huge Variety, but Not So Mixed – There is a HUGE variety of people at OSU. Hundreds, if not thousands, of countries, nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, cultural backgrounds, religions, and sexual orientations are represented. Unfortunately they could be better mixed, however. Many clubs, majors, housing options, etc are predominantly homogeneous. I never noticed any tension or anything as a result though.

Overall Experience: Best School in the Nation – I love it here at Ohio State. There is not a club or event that you can think of that is not here. There is even a pizza eating club, seriously. There is help readily available to students who may be in need. The college itself is a self-sustaining city within a city. And no matter where you go in America, people know your college and someone who went here.

Athletics: Varsity Sports – Ohio State has many top ranked teams in the country in sports. Where to start? Football, Did I mention football? The tradition in football is the highest and richest in the country. Our fans cover the world, and our team stay in the rankings year in and year out to point in which we are spoiled. Our Basketball team is also ranked highly in the nation and also has a rich tradiction of winning. And school spirit is al about O-H.....I-O.

Campus Quality: The RPAC – The atletic facilities at OSU are second to none in the country. No matter what type of event you wish to participate in, OSU has it. There is rock climbing walls, Nike video lounge, multiple swimming pools, multiple level gyms and more weight lifting machines than the rest of Columbus, Ohio. The Student Union is freshly renovated to a modern state of the art facility that many Buckeye's are proud of. Everything you would think of in one of the top colleges in America.

Scholarships: financial aid was a bit of a pain, but that's to be expected. After a lot of work it was done and over with. My biggest tip is get started 2 months before you planed on starting, you'll need as much time as u can get to figure it out

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Computer Science and Engineering – I am very happy with my major and would make the same decision again. I am not completely decided on my career goals but, I am not that worried about finding a job in my field.

Transportation: Transportation on school is easy. There are buses that can take you anywhere around campus. And access to the Columbus city buses is included in your tuition so you can use your school id to take a city bus to get anywhere you need to go that the school buses to not go to.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: I have never seen any form of discrimination on campus.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I was able to get a scholarship thru the College of Engineering that has been very helpful. There is a separate application, besides the university-wide application.

Health & Safety: Very Safe – The entire Ohio State campus is very well lit. There are campus police patrolling the streets all the time, you will see a patrol car pass by you every minute or so if you are walking on a street. Also where there are walking paths inaccessible to vehicles you will find emergency call booths, and I'm told that the police have very fast response times. Also with the amount of people walking around campus you never feel as if you are alone. I feel very safe walking around campus at night.

Majors: They're Out There – The internships are out there, and depending on your major, you may be e-mailed notices about them. I've applied to two positions here so far, and am waiting for a response.

Parking: Some universities have free places to park. This isn't one. The campus is essentially a city; if you have business in more than a small section of it, bring a bike. I can't speak to how much parking is actually available once you've paid; just don't expect to put your car anywhere for free.
Fortunately, buildings are lumped together by category. I've never needed to travel more than a reasonable walking distance on campus.

The one time I did have to park, I found myself on the seventh floor of some huge parking complex, the kind it takes five minutes to get in and out of.

Campus Quality: When most people think of Ohio State the football history and tradition of excellence first comes to mind. But, the university itself is much more than a great winning football program. Ohio State boasts the most collegiate sports teams in the state of Ohio, offers award-winning academic programs, and a President with a bowtie. If there is one thing that is special about Ohio State, it's options. The Ohio State community offers numerous choices in housing, dining, and social events. They bring concerts, comedians, lecturers, and political figures to campus free for students. The social atmosphere is conducive to any type of person and the diversity of students and cultures is prominent, welcomed, and celebated.

Drug Safety: You'll Have Some of the Best Times You'll Never Remember - Alcohol – Alcohol is by far the most visible and popular drug on and around campus. In the dorms, you are given a slap on the wrist the first couple times you are caught doing some underage drinking. While some people smoke pot, it is usually done at parties where alcohol is present as well. As long as house and frat parties are held inside or on the lawn, and not spilling onto the sidewalks or the street, cops do not bother. Some of the bars around campus have cracked down on underage drinking and have changed from 18+ to 21+, but free beer is only steps away from High Street at somebody's house.

Greek Life: Average at Best Expect for the Parties – Being a part of a fraternity or sorority is not a necessary part of the Ohio State college experience. Many students look down on the Greek organizations for their lack of volunteer efforts, community contributions, GPA failures, and school violations. Most students join for the parties and to make friends. However, a few sororities and fraternities do get it right and put on noteworthy and popular events around Columbus and Ohio State. Ohio State does not offer on-campus or special Greek housing. The Greek houses are right off-campus. While most of the houses look like mansions with magnificent accommodations, the insides are atrocious and the floors are falling in. Overall, a student will have a social life if he or she chooses not to join the Greek community, but others will gain community opportunities, a close circle of friends, and free beer by joining.

Scholarships: My Money – Financial aid changed everything and now I'm getting less money. But they did give me more grants this year. One very IMPORTANT thing, always talk to your advisor to lay everything out straight. It CAN seem like they're trying to cheat you on money, but it turns out you misunderstood or mistyped some information so make sure everything is CRYSTAL CLEAR

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: What Do I Think? I think Ohio State is a really great school, the huge campus can present a number of problems but that's also what makes it a spectacular school. There's nothing I would change about it.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Plenty of parking, it's just all over the place because of the HUGE campus. You have to get to class early because parking can fill up quick. Parking isn't too expensive, its a good price. The only problems would be a full parking lot close to a particular building you wanted to be by.

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Number 1 ranked sports teams
Highly ranked hospitals
Over 10 Top ten ranked programs
Considered a "best value" among public universities

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are tons of apartments and housing close by. The university area has become a lot safer over the years.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Off Campus – There are many dining options nearby. My favorites are Panera, McDonalds, BW3, Wendy's and Chipotle. You can use your BuckID card for convenience. Cost is fine with student discounts available.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather is like a tipical midwest state, but a little warmer. Being from Iowa there was not much change going to Ohio. The only difference I noticed is that Columbus doesn't have as bad of winters as Iowa.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletics at Ohio State are off the chart! As a student-athlete myself at Ohio State, the athletics and athletic department is amazing! They care about the athletes well-being, and the students/fans experience. They are always improving things to increase the experience for not only the athletes but the fans.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The facilities and campus are amazing! The level of opportunity at The Ohio State University is limitless! If for some reason the university doesn't have what you need to better yourself. They will find it and get it for you. Along with being a fantastic university, the workload and classes are not easy. Ohio State wants its degree to hold a high stature in the working world. Professors and departments expect a lot out of the students, but at the same time there tons of resources to help you. LOVE OSU!! I bleed scarlet and grey!

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Student safety on campus is very important to OSU. Emergency buttons are located throughout campus. Student Safety Services offers free rides to the campus and some surrounding housing areas via Campus Escort. I feel very safe to walk alone on campus, but I wouldn't recommend it at night. I'll ride the bus or the escort service.
OSU also offers an emergency alert system though every students cell phone and email to keep everyone updated during an emergency.

There is a reason the Buckeye Nation is considered to be so devoted; an overwhelming love for OSU is evident in student responses, and in the loyalty of alumni to their alma mater. Each person has his or her own reasons for loving the University, and there are quite a few of them. Some students feel that the academics are top-notch and have found exactly the programs they wanted; others lean toward the athletic success of the Buckeye teams, while some just feel that the friendships and bonds they have made are enough to make their tenure at OSU worthwhile. At any rate, everyone can agree that being a Buckeye creates a special bond between you and nearly 50,000 other students, which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Once you get past the sheer size of the University, it will really become a second home. After only a quarter of classes, you won't be able to cross the Oval without seeing someone you know. Ohio State is truly the smallest large university you will find. The people are known for their friendly attitudes, and alumni are scattered across the nation. If you choose to go to OSU, you're choosing a school with a name that's well known, both in the workplace and in the college community. Few students ever regret their time at Ohio State, and most consider their college experience to be among the best offered in the Big Ten and the country.
