Health & Safety: Student safety on campus is very important to OSU. Emergency buttons are located throughout campus. Student Safety Services offers free rides to the campus and some surrounding housing areas via Campus Escort. I feel very safe to walk alone on campus, but I wouldn't recommend it at night. I'll ride the bus or the escort service.
OSU also offers an emergency alert system though every students cell phone and email to keep everyone updated during an emergency.

Local Area: While OSU is located in a very urban area, the school itself is pretty isolated. There is a lot to do on campus because of its size and access to opportunity. Shopping is great, with Easton and Polaris malls a short bus ride away.

Off-Campus Housing: Lots of Options – There are obviously tons of off-campus housing options when you're right in a city like Columbus.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Not Much Room – The dorms are extremely cramped my freshman year but there are always people to hang out with.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: OK but Not as Good as Home – There are a lot of good places right off campus that accept the BuckID so that is nice. The food is okay but it's incomparable to a home cooked meal.

Diversity: Ohio State has an outstanding amount of student clubs and organizations. These clubs showcase the amount of diversity the university offers. There is literally something for everyone. It seems like everyday, some group has a table set up on campus, giving away free food so they can talk to you about their cause for a few minutes. Also, the student involvement fair in the fall allows not only the incoming freshmen, but also upperclassmen the large amount if clubs and organization that are just waiting to take on new members.

Campus Housing: Dorm Life – I lived on South Campus in the high rise dorms, and it was the best decision I have ever made! It was close to the middle of campus, dining places, and shopping/restaurants too. I met a lot of great people living in the dorms, and wouldn't trade the experience for the world! However, a downside was the lack of air conditioning. Also, the bathrooms/rooms could stand a bit of a makeover. But other than that, the dorms were a lot of fun and an essential part of the "freshmen experience"!

Drug Safety: The policies are strickly enforced at my school, but they do have some bars on campus. if you are not 21 or older they will not serve you drinks and you will be kicked out if you buy drinks for anyone who is underage. I havent had to deal with much drug use, and it is also enforced very well.

2 College Freshman

Party Scene: Not Much – I do not have much of a night life at my school, just because I do not enjoy drinking or being around drinking.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I enjoy the food around campu very much. There is plenty of choices, so matter if you are craving french fries or oriental dishes, you will always have a happy stomach.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Good Night Life – it is super awesome. all the bars have good deals.

Local Area: Buckeye Land! Perhaps the biggest place you could easily feel at home in; Columbus offers a little piece of everything, and more. The Ohio State University itself produces attraction world wide, football being one of their countless focuses. OSU is also always sponsoring activities for the youth to participate in (k-12), as well as events for partiers, art admirers, comedy enthusiasts, music lovers, and much more! Downtown Columbus offers incredible shopping, dining, history, activities, etc. Columbus brings you the "big-city" atmosphere while leaving the big-city congestion you would normally find in an area like NYC.

Local Area: Exciting Sports and Great School – Everywhere in Columbus you will find at least 20 people talking about OSU football. It's a big part of Columbus and Ohio itself. We pride ourselves on being one of the best sports school here and having the best fans that anyone could ask for. Along with sports OSU is also a great school, with a huge campus. The students love being here and the people love calling OSU their home state school.

Majors: Very Helpful – In order to get into the college of Allied Medicine, I had to attend a meeting, on the college, and then sign up for a pre-health science major. Everything was explained very well. I was able to ask individual questions, given handouts, and given an academic counselor in that college. I now have to meet the pre-reqs, and then apply to my major.

Academics: Where Should I Study? There are many popular study areas offered at Ohio State. Thompson Library is the most popular, and is beautiful at night, with an incredible view of downtown Columbus from the 11th floor. Be sure to get there early during exam time though, as it is often crowded.

Local Area: Always Something Going on – There is always something going on in Columbus. There is Ohio State and several small colleges. One of my favorite places to go is to the short North. It is very modern and has all kinds restaurants, and galleries. There are also several professional sports teams.

Majors: Transition to Semesters – OSU is currently transitioning from quarters to semesters (2012-2013), but all of the advisors are being very helpful to students whose majors are drastically changing. There are many majors to choose from and the Fisher College of Business is top-notch, so is OSU's medical.

Local Area: Diverse, Art District – Ohio State's campus, and the surronding areas, or very diverse and there is much to do. Including the short north discrit, arena, and brewery district. Buckeye-nation is always fun since Ohio State football has it's own cult following.

Local Area: Ohio state has one the best recreation centers for their student to use for exercise, intermural sports, etc. This is where student can use the rec to relieve stress from the classes. Also Ohio State is a very big sports school with attractions like football and basketball that allows student and alumni to come together to support their team.

Campus Food: Lots of Variety – Campus is in the center of things, for dorm residents there are various opportunieis as well as a large variety of vendors

4 College Senior

Campus Quality: Campus Offers Most Anything That You Would Want – OSU has a fabulous recreation center incuding a pool, track, workout equipment, weights, etc. Student Heath Center is accessible, main library is brand new with many college specific liabraries as well as on-line libraries

Drug Safety: Drug safety information is hyper-salient at OSU. Most people know how to manage their alcohol intake. Peer pressure isn't as controlling as it is at some other colleges.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Almost everyone at The Ohio State University is involved in athletics in some way. As most of you know, Ohio State is always a contender in just about every major sport, resulting in tremendous fan support. Ohio State has the largest on campus recreational center open most hours to all students.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Plenty of Options – The Ohio State University Columbus campus is surrounded on all sides by all sorts of restaurants. The variety is unrivaled, and most have very reasonable prices for the amount and quality of the food. This is very convenient for students on a budget, as well as students that don't have much time to eat.

There is a reason the Buckeye Nation is considered to be so devoted; an overwhelming love for OSU is evident in student responses, and in the loyalty of alumni to their alma mater. Each person has his or her own reasons for loving the University, and there are quite a few of them. Some students feel that the academics are top-notch and have found exactly the programs they wanted; others lean toward the athletic success of the Buckeye teams, while some just feel that the friendships and bonds they have made are enough to make their tenure at OSU worthwhile. At any rate, everyone can agree that being a Buckeye creates a special bond between you and nearly 50,000 other students, which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Once you get past the sheer size of the University, it will really become a second home. After only a quarter of classes, you won't be able to cross the Oval without seeing someone you know. Ohio State is truly the smallest large university you will find. The people are known for their friendly attitudes, and alumni are scattered across the nation. If you choose to go to OSU, you're choosing a school with a name that's well known, both in the workplace and in the college community. Few students ever regret their time at Ohio State, and most consider their college experience to be among the best offered in the Big Ten and the country.
